I can't believe I am doing this, have always said I wouldn't.

Simple yes or no please, easier for me to work out the verdict!

Ned is in DS1's class.. he suits it.. good name..
makes me think of the band Neds attomic Dustbin

ravenAK · 07/07/2008 23:25

I have an Edmund, shortened to Ned.

My favourite boy's name was Edward, but dh is Edward or Ed.

Ds does actually prefer his name in full - he's nearly 4.

I'd say go with Edward but call him Ned!

mazzystar · 07/07/2008 23:27

not true after all

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 08/07/2008 09:16

We have decided to ignore the Scottish meaning, as I said if we had any link to Scotland whatsoever then it might have been an issue, but seeing as we don't have a link, then we don't see it as a problem.

So far 28 have said yes, 12 had said no, any more for anymore?

dinny · 08/07/2008 12:18

exactly, if you don't live in Scotland, what's the problem?

oh, I love it - my dh's parents were really unure when we named him, but they really like it now too

stepfordwife · 08/07/2008 12:19

yes
love it

Collision · 08/07/2008 12:20

I love it!

Would have had a Ned but our surname starts with N.

ingles2 · 08/07/2008 12:24

love it
I desperately wanted Ned, but dh refused on the grounds of hating a boy with said name at school

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 08/07/2008 12:24

The more I say it out loud, the more I like it

Only slight problem is my name starts with N, but I think we may well register him as Edward or even Edmund, so any 'official' post would come through as 'E. Surname' for him.

I actually wrote my surname in then.....

yes, do it!!!

my Ned is on my profile, NJ, he so suits it imo!

Hobnobfanatic · 08/07/2008 12:27

Yes, love it. I know a little Ned and he's lovely!

Collision · 08/07/2008 12:28

Remember whatever you call him he will end up with a nickname such as NeddyNeddyNooNar!

My ds2 only answers to Bosh atm!

He wants to be called JoshuaJonathanJJ which is a bit of a mouthful!

his name is Joshua!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 08/07/2008 12:44

Oh yep, ready for the nicknames.

DS1 is Thomas, we have Tomasina and Tommyarse.

DS2 is George, which is actually Georgie, or Georgie-Porgie, or Porgie, or Porge, or something....

Love it - am annoyed it doesn't go with my surname.

Think Edward might go better with your other boy's names tho...

branflake81 · 08/07/2008 18:20

Not if you're Scottish.

Reminds me of About A Boy - it's the name Hugh Grant chooses for his made up son.

scottishmum007 · 08/07/2008 18:30

one word: chav. ned conjures up so many bad images. i'm sorry, maybe it's just a scottish thing??

BoysAreLikeDogs · 08/07/2008 18:31

I wanted Ned for DS2, but (Scottish) DP said no

Nedclara · 10/01/2011 16:36

Hi , My little boy is called Ned.. Not Edward or Edmund just plain Ned. I have to say people my age or younger absolutely love the name. The only people who tend to not say much (which means they probably do not like it) is the older generation. Most people when they ask say .. 'Oh I love that name'. I absolutely love saying that his name is Ned when people ask and I was going to call him Max and so please that I have a name that I still love and that not many people have....

shouldnotbehere · 10/01/2011 16:54

yes

LetThereBeRock · 10/01/2011 17:03

This post is 2008,so I suspect that the OP will most likely have made her decision by now.

LetThereBeRock · 10/01/2011 17:03

That should be 'This post is from 2008'.

wickedfairy · 11/01/2011 11:31

Where I am from, a "Ned" is what is referred to as a "Chav" in England. Sorry...

cocoachannel · 11/01/2011 13:24

I really hope this kid has a name by now given 2008 OP but... for those who may be considering the name, it may be worth noting a new film called 'NEDs: Non-Educated Deliquents' has just been released. It's use in Scotland and Northern Ireland may be about to sweep the country.

Opinionatedfreak · 12/01/2011 00:37

Snap cocoa.
