Really like it, but wonder if it will be confused with Lauren which I don't like as much?

Makes me think of Cilla Black! Sorry

CristinaTheAstonishing · 07/07/2008 23:21

Huh? Where does Cilla Black come into it?

cece · 07/07/2008 23:22

You know how she says Lora lorra ... instead of lot of...

CristinaTheAstonishing · 07/07/2008 23:23

Oh, thanks, I haven't watched Blind Date in about 15 years, I think.

cece · 07/07/2008 23:24

It just sounds similar that's all...

madmarriedNika · 08/07/2008 00:06

I'm afraid it reminds me of a hedge- sorry- if I could break that association I think it's actually a very nice name

Laurel's a lovely name. not keen on Lauren. know a few Laura'also nice name, but they feel it's a bit plain-think they would have preferred to be called Laurel...

davidtennantsmistress · 10/07/2008 15:51

no mu cousins called laurel never called her lauren, althou the family do all call her Loz, not sure what her college mates call her - she was called laurel lou as a child, but well, it got confusing! lol.

I know a lauren as well and she is lovely, pretty dainty little girl.

VanillaPumpkin · 10/07/2008 15:51

I love it. I like Laura and Lauren too (I have one of those)
The problem we had with Laurel was that character in Emmerdale had just pitched up and she was a bit odd at the start.....not that I even watch it......

artgirl73 · 10/07/2008 15:58

i like the name, beautiful!

AnnieLaurie70 · 10/07/2008 18:10

Laura is the classic form, all other forms of it eventually sound dated. I suppose Laurel is separate from Laura and not a form of it, but I'd still have to vote for Laura over Laurel.

Lauren is already sounding dated, and as a Laurie born in 1970 I know how dated my name already sounds. Ditto for Lori.

elle23 · 10/07/2008 18:24

would definitely choose Lori (NOT laurie) instead of Laurel. but i agree with AnnieLaurie70- Laura is best of all. wish i could have explained it as well....no all new posters-read above!!

Gorgeous, have liked Laurel for years.

Flum · 10/07/2008 23:36

Ahhh great friends just called their babe Laurie, but Laurel on birth cert. Very pretty.

Botbot · 11/07/2008 11:20

I like it. Couldn't use it myself though, because I've got a Sorrel.

HonoriaGlossop · 11/07/2008 11:59

I haven't heard this for AGES - think it's a really pretty name!

FattipuffsandThinnifers · 11/07/2008 16:50

My mum's called Laurel, and I love it (not that I'm biased, honest). She's never been called Lauren, but has sometimes been called 'Carol', specially by old folk.

Bumblelion · 11/07/2008 16:54

Laurel is a lovely name, very pretty. As another message above says, means the same as Daphne (which I also really like).

My friend is called Laurie (when I first knew her I spelt it Lori).

I mentioned to her (and she had never realised before) that it is a mixture of her parents' names.

Her dad is Lawrence and her mum is Rhiannon - shorten both names and you get Lau-rie.

LuLuBai · 11/07/2008 16:56

Very pretty
