I know I'd be pretty narked if I was the saint of throat complaints (minor) rather than something impressive like looking after an entire country or small children!

minouminou · 02/07/2008 12:43

the patron saint of impetigo
poorly knees

You a Henry Treece fan by any chance?
I like it in theory but I think it would be cruel and unusual to actually inflict it on a child.

ListersSister · 02/07/2008 12:45

I would be worried about the 'tosser' thing too (as well as the IKEA soundalike). If you ask children, they tend to want 'normal' names. Adults tend to want more interesting names, but at least adults can decide to change them for themselves .

Your child might grow up to be a great Tostig who loves his name. Or, he could hate it forever and want to be called Sam...

minouminou · 02/07/2008 12:45

i have to admit, rosa, i have no idea who henry treece is
it's a historical name, for me

I think I have fallen in love with Inigo. It's probably a good job I am having a girl as Inigo would have gone straight in at number 1 for a boy...

RosaLuxembunting · 02/07/2008 13:05

Henry Treece wrote historical children's fiction.
One of my favourites, Hounds of the King, was based on the story of Harold Godwinson and his brother Tostig.

minouminou · 02/07/2008 13:09

yeah...i googled treece
also, the novel the last english king by julian rathbone features tostig, but i liked the name beforehand
oh god....stop me....i'm coming round to it again

No, you are right, you can't!

wilbur · 02/07/2008 14:32

What about Ptolomy? Seriously - is v cool, I think, if you are feeling brave, and the shortened version, Tolly, is lovely.

serenity · 02/07/2008 14:38

If it goes with your surname then why not? It reminds me of my brothers friend Torsten (who had scandinavian roots) lovely name if it fits.

minouminou · 02/07/2008 14:38

I don't like the name ptolemy, i'm afraid, wilbur, but thanks for suggestion.
I'm not now considering tostig....well, i am, but i won't use it.
sigh.............chunky little blondie thing..........i can see him now

Reminds me of Stig of the Dump.

minouminou · 02/07/2008 14:46

well, yeah, but i don't think stig o't dump will be in anyone's frame of reference in a few years
I'm not talking myself back into it here...honest

OP posts:
pookamoo · 02/07/2008 15:49

Stig of the dump was written in 1963 so it's been around for 45 years already...
I like both Tostig and Stigand, but then, like MrsBabookaloo the names "Derra" and "Tomlin" were on my list for imaginary children. Funnily enough now I'm PG I didn't even think of them!

There's an idea for a whole new thread!
"What names (real or made up) would you give your DC in an ideal world?"...

minouminou · 02/07/2008 15:56

well, this is it.....we may well find out it's a girl at 20 weeks, then it'll be academic
stigella, tostette?
(i am jesting btw).

OP posts:
minouminou · 02/07/2008 15:58

OP posts:
Desiderata · 02/07/2008 15:59

I just think tosser.

Sorry.

Anglepoise · 02/07/2008 17:52

I rather like it. But then I think Stig of the Dump was fab and therefore the connotations don't bother me!

minouminou · 02/07/2008 19:51

ghaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaghggggghghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
don't talk me back into it!

OP posts:
Hulababy · 02/07/2008 19:57
