We're not even trying for a baby next year and we had a lovely name all picked out, but we've just thought of Liberty and quite like it. It's very random for us as we don't usually like names like that... but I wondered what you'd all make of it?

sorry, not trying for a baby UNTIL next year.

And Liberty is for a girl by the way.

I went to primary school with a Liberty. Her sister was Amity.

As children we didn't know what the names meant, but now they seem a little

savoycabbage · 01/07/2008 15:24

It's nice. There is a Liberty in my dd's pre-school and she gets called Libby.

savoycabbage · 01/07/2008 15:24

Ohhh I like Amity now!

Raahh · 01/07/2008 15:29

Amity means friendship- but all i can think of is Amityville horror, sorry.

LuLuBai · 01/07/2008 16:44

I think Liberty is gorgeous. Hope you have a girl when you get round to conceiving next year

Kaedsmum · 01/07/2008 16:52

Actually, the other name we'd set on was Libby... so we could call her Liberty and then shorten if we feel like it at the time I guess!

Ooo I'm really pleased everyone's been nice about it. I thought everyone would slag it off.

I don't like it, sorry but I DO like Libby.

MaryAnnSingleton · 01/07/2008 17:01

my mum knew someone (male) with middle name of Liberty.

Fimbo · 01/07/2008 17:03

My dd has a friend with this name but she gets called Lib/Libs/Libby generally.

ByTheSea · 01/07/2008 18:53

I like it. And the nn Libby too.

findtheriver · 01/07/2008 20:21

Will end up as Libs.

Hulababy · 01/07/2008 23:10

One of DD's school friends i called Liberty. So far it hasn't been shortened at school.

ravenAK · 01/07/2008 23:11

For some bizarre reason I find myself thinking of sanitary towels!

Amity is cool.

Comerscroft · 02/07/2008 08:26

Liberty bodice............a vest-like garment into which children were buttoned.

I had a liberty bodice in the 60s, and they are still available.

Nice and warm, though.

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/07/2008 08:48

I really like it, but it is quite American and modern, so prob not to everyone's taste. Dh wouldn't let me put it on our shortlist for this baby, but he's a boy so I guess it doesn't matter .

Nancy66 · 02/07/2008 10:19

it's quite popular and a wee bit chav round these parts (SW London)

wessexgirl · 02/07/2008 10:22

I don't usually like non-traditional names, but I really, really love Liberty. I would consider using it myself.

reethi96 · 02/07/2008 10:36

I have always liked it but I agree with with ravenAk about sanitary towels!

InTheDollshouse · 02/07/2008 14:34

Not keen. I like Libby, but would have that as short for Elizabeth.

Kaedsmum · 02/07/2008 17:10

I'm really liking most of these comments! Fantastic. I think that's a maybe definate then!!
