Just asking if these names are used much. I had two friends at school named Valerie (Val) and Vrginia (Ginnie).

Virginia can have unfortunate nicknames eg Creeper, Gin, Virgin, so.......

On the whole, I prefer Valerie.

I know a couple of people called Valerie. One is my mum's cousin who is slightly odd, the other is french. I prefer Virginia - Ginny?

I think i also prefer Virginia - but also like Valerie

I like them both, but I bet Virginia will get shortened to Virgin at school. There was a boy called Virgil at my school, and unfortunately he was always called Virgin. He hated that.

I really like Valerie, I'd love to hear of a baby Valerie, but Viginia... I don't DISlike it but I'd never use it. Eugenia would be a less potentially teaseworthy alternative.

Valerie is so much prettier than Vanessa imo. The 'essa' sound is so hissy and harsh.

I prefer Valerie, which sounds very pretty and somewhat Parisian.

Know some great Virgina's through my work, all in their 50's and impressive women - but abbreviations at school would worry me, Virgin etc..

I like Virginia and Ginty is one of my favourite nicknames. But I would be too nervous about teasing to actually use it.
