Nickname names?

Curious how people feel - if you have a name that doesn’t have a nickname (so you just go by your given name), do you like it?

If you have a name with one or multiple nicknames, do you like the options?

I have a popular name with multiple nicknames and I have always gone by one of the nicknames. I don’t mind having the options but I normally correct when people see my name written as the full version.

Wondering opinions!

My name has no obvious shortenings. I often ended up as something bizarre and very far from my name or nothing at all. I would have much rather had an obvious shortening and was jealous of kids who did when I was younger.

As a Helen, my parents have given me the nicknames of Helliwogs and Helleborus (not said in public :) which I find quite funny.
But occasionally, since my 20's, some women thought it was OK to call me Hel. I hate that, maybe some Helens like that (another lady liked to be known as Hell's Bells) and for a while it made me hate my name and want to change it. At primary school I was Helen Melon or Nelly the Elephant, after the song.
I just put people right if they call me anything other than Helen. Some Helens are known as Len or Nell, no-one's called me those.
Mum mistakenly thought Helen couldn't be shortened.😅
