Struggling to choose between these traditional boys names. I also like Cameron and Hamish, but I probably won’t use one of them. Vote for your favourite to help me decide. Thanks!

Our James is normally known by his full name which he prefers (he's 8), or Jim sometimes, Jimbob, Jem. Rarely Jamie for some reason.

James over any boys name. It’s lovely.

I love Hamish.
I voted for James.
I know of so many Georges.
I strongly dislike Cameron.
Henry, meh.

I love Henry, like James, and have no feelings about George.
Hamish is fantastic.

I voted for James, but (assuming you’re of Scottish heritage) I prefer Hamish & Cameron to all of them.

I like James, but voted - and prefer - Henry.

Nest choice would be Hamish and James equal (and I think they are English and Scottish versions of each other aren't they?) and lastly George and Cameron.

I know George is a classic, but I'm really not fond of the sound.

Hamish is very Scottish to me, so I think that would be a weird choice without a Scottish link.

My first and second choice would be James and Cameron.

I'm not that keen on George but I really like all the others, especially James.

Great choices-classless and popular without being too much so. James has pretty much always been the most classic. The first three are likely to "always" be classics. Cameron has actually been very popular over the last couple of decades. Hamish is the most "different" sounding one and if he doesn't have a Scottish accent, he might get asked about it by every stranger, only going off someone with an Irish name who keeps getting asked why she has a Manchester accent!

I vote Henry. James is dull as dishwater and George is just awful. I quite like Hamish but it sounds very Scottish so maybe odd if he doesn’t have Scottish ancestry.

It is because IRL people tend not to be honest about giving feedback. Names carry quite a lot of baggage in the sense that people often get an initial opinion about someone on the basis of it - not fair, no, but it does happen.

Another benefit of asking online is that she gets a wider range of feedback than her own social circle.
