Axel or Justin?

Do you prefer Axel or Justin? I've gotten some faces when I've mentioned either as potential names we're considering (which has caused a bit of doubt).

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I love Axel but I just can’t get past Rudakabana especially today on the 2cd anniversary of the Southport tragedy

Axel Rudakubana

I think it’s unfair to make the name all about one person. Some children were already named it and would be horrible if people made that association straight away.

But we are discussing a child who isn’t even born yet.

I feel for kids like “Isis” or “Karen” who have faced thus problem.

I agree with the people who say that Axel and Justin are completely opposite type names. My first thoughts were Rose, Timberlake, Bieber so assumed a musical connection. (It’s good that you weren’t suggesting the Axl spelling btw)

hamnish · 29/07/2026 21:42

Axl Rose or Justin Hawkins? You just need Freddie and Gene for the full catsuit house.

CloudyWithAChanceOfCustard · 29/07/2026 21:47

Neither! 😖

Screamingabdabz · 29/07/2026 21:49

Neither. There have got to be better names!

Empress13 · 29/07/2026 21:52

I like the name Justin hate Axel or Axl if you want to be trendy bloody awful. There are so many other nicer names IMO

Well it can’t be helped if someone already has the name obviously

Axel is only ok if you have Scandinavian heritage. Otherwise, it conjures up an ageing rocker.

Justin is a posh, weedy name.

Moveoverdarlin · Yesterday 00:19

Justin?? Christ.

Not keen on Axel, but good grief it’s better than Justin. Justin I put in the same bracket as Kevin, Gavin, Darren and Bradley. Naughty boys charging round on BMX bikes in 1991 with a gold sleeper in their left ear and a fag hanging out their mouth.

Having said all that - it also reminds me of the infuriating song Justin’s House which I listened to for about four years nonstop on CBeebies.

All things considered I would go for Axel.

Axel is nice, I wouldn’t use it as it’s too short and doesn’t have good nickname opportunities but I think Justin is awful personally.

Sorry off topic but I absolutely loved the Middle, such an underrated show!

Me too currently rewatching it again 😂😂😂

AgnesMcDoo · Yesterday 00:58

Axel is bloody awful
Justin is dated but better than Axel

Lichenrose · Yesterday 01:01

Justin is a McCarthy name.

Not very often I comment on proposed baby names, but these two are dreadful, almost to the point that I can smell a windup.

Why would what someone else, especially a stranger on the internet, is considering naming their child wind anyone up, though? I’ve never once read any of these name threads and had that strong of a reaction to it.

I don’t know how many times I’ve seen it 😂 if you haven’t already, I thoroughly recommend Parks and Recreation - very very similar show imo with a similar sense of humour

Tristam looks like a typo

I think it’s usually Tristram when used with the ‘m’

Come again?
it looks and indeed sounds like a typo

makemineadecaf · Yesterday 10:33

Axel is awful.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · Yesterday 10:34

Don't do it if your surname is Grease.

Lentilcakes · Yesterday 10:35

Do you watch The Middle wrt Axel? If not, you should 😂
I don’t like Justin (just in time, ‘just in’) - just no 😂

Ihaveoflate · Yesterday 10:36

I think this post might be a wind up but just in case it's real...

Those names are dire. Axel is giving ageing rocker and Justin sends my mind straight to Mr Tumble. They're both very dated and not in a good way.
