I’ve heard this name recently, and it is growing on me. Can I have some thoughts on Romilly for a girl? Any positive or negative opinions please!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I like it x

SirChenjins · 11/07/2026 21:38

I love it. It was one I thought about for DD but sadly it doesn't go with our surname.

wonderingwhatsnext · 11/07/2026 22:02

I like it too. Very pretty.

BeaPerry · 11/07/2026 22:02

Love it - I would have used this name - the DH didn’t like it !

Berlinlover · 11/07/2026 22:03

I would have thought it’s a boy’s name.

midwalker · 11/07/2026 22:28

I have one. She gets called Rom most of the time by us, which I didn’t anticipate! But generally she is Romilly at school. I still love the name but she is 10 and says it is “mid” 😂

CactusClive · 11/07/2026 23:01

There’s a little girl in my daughters ballet class called Romilly, it’s a lovely name

Giraffehaver · 11/07/2026 23:02

My favourite name but dh vetoed it because it made him think of Rommel 🙄

Exactly why my DH vetoed it too! Gutted because I love it. And I love Romy as a nn.

Butterflybluebell · 12/07/2026 00:25

I adore it.
Would have DD's name had DH not strongly vetoed it.

Atleastthedoglikesme · 12/07/2026 00:40

I would have loved it but sadly live too near Romiley in Stockport for it to work here.

CuppaWhiteTea · 12/07/2026 01:23

Lovely name

Definitely a girl's name - like Romilly Weeks, the news presenter.

It's definitely a girls name but I do think historically it was seen as a male given name and a surname

patooties · 12/07/2026 01:44

I love it - Rome-y for short (one of my friends mum was called this when I was a teenager and she was really glam)
we live too close to Stockport though - so DS would have had to have been a Rosemary (shortened to Romy) do it.

just don’t bore everyone out with a Milly nickname. Milly molly Maisie Amelia Emilia etc are ten a penny round here.

StarCourt · 12/07/2026 02:01

I know a Romily

SnowFrogJelly · 12/07/2026 02:04

Love it!

MmeDubois7 · 12/07/2026 02:09

Lovely name. My friend is called Romilly.

Romilly Hobbs had a shop in Covent Garden.

localnotail · 12/07/2026 05:04

Unusual but very pretty.

Calliopespa · 12/07/2026 13:18

It always makes me think of Erwin Rommel which is why I struggle to see the appeal.

But it isn''t a weird or made-up name.

I find it so interesting that so many people make this connection tbh. My DH included in that! I think they sound completely different personally. I have always wondered why the name isn't more popular but I guess this is one of the reasons. That and the fact it is a place name in Stockport (which I didn't know until finding that out on here)

I guess it depends a bit which you heard first. For me it was Rommel, so for me that's the association.

pillorinjection · 12/07/2026 17:19

I assumed it meant gypsy, but think that’s Romany?

I guess pronounciation matters. To me it's "ROM-IL-LEE" not "Romell-Lee"

Edited

I'd say the first bit of that (Rom-il) more or less the same as Rommel, so yes, maybe that's part of it.

I wouldn't say Rom -MILLIE if that's what you mean?
