Girls' names used 10 times or fewer in 2025 (England & Wales)

The ONS stats for baby names in 2025 came out yesterday, so I've been having a dig through the data set.

Parents-to-be are often looking for lesser used names, so here's a small selection of girl names that were used 10 times or fewer for babies born in 2025, according to the latest data set.

Some are names which were never commonly used. Some are names which have fallen out of favour with today's parents. And some are definitely more usable than others!

I've not tallied up combined spellings, so some of the names listed might tip over 10 if all the different variants are taken into consideration.

Tamsin is my favourite!

My name is on that list and im about to hit 40, so I think its probably because it isnt yet "old" enough to have come back round into fashion. Its probably seen as 80s-90s name.

One of the names is also DD1's middle name and thats because she was named after my DM in her 60s. I think that could be due more of a revival soon.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 11/07/2026 15:20

My daughter's name is on there!

It's so rare to meet another Squirrelsnut! 👋

😂

DDs name is there, but not mine, can’t believe it’s more popular than hers! Mine was chosen as it is very similar in my late DMs language.

Have you found yours on the list to see that it's popular? If it not on the 1-10 list it could have not been used at all.

Is it actually on the list at all? If it's used 3 times or fewer, it won't be featured. My daughter's never is (despite being a real, English properly spelled name)

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 11/07/2026 21:18

My name is there. I’m quite surprised! Others have really surprised me eg Susannah, Angeline, Candice, Carly, Christabel, Clemency, Gemma, Georgette, Jodie, Tamsin and Tess seem surprising to me.

SwedishEdith · 11/07/2026 21:24

I'm surprised Jean is on there. That seems to be one of those retro names you see a lot on here.

sjutton · 12/07/2026 09:04

Zélie is really popular in France and in the Top 199 there. As you cant use diacritical marks in names in the UK we didn't use it even though it was one of my favourites.

We used another name that is in that list though, so I must have quite niche taste in girls names. 😆

Yes, I was a bit surprised by Jean. Perhaps J names just aren't very popular for girls in general at the moment, as there aren't any in the top 100 this year.

@Echobelly
I agree, Yvonne is lovely, as is Evonne. I knew a lovely girl called Yvonne when I was growing up.
