Baby girls name: Kara or Evelyn

HeggyPatt · 09/07/2026 07:07

Hi! I'm due to have a baby girl in 7 weeks and we are undecided on a name still! Her middle name will be Faith and the names we are both deciding between are:

Kara Faith
Evelyn Faith

I also like Melody as music has a strong presence in our family but my husband isn't as keen on this name. I could work on him though!

Just wondering what others think 🤔

Thanks!

When we registered dd1 for 6th form as we sat down the teacher said “Eve?” We said no
not her. He said I’ve just seen 5
girls you are the first not called Eve 🙈

2mumlife · 09/07/2026 10:49

I prefer Kara. My isntinct was to also vote for it with a C, but then I had a look and Kara with a K has more nordic origins which I like. So I think I'd actually go K

Thank you so much everyone! I think we will probably go with Kara. The reason why we are thinking of the K spelling is that we live in N.Ireland and the C spelling is quite popular over here as a name and would like something a little different, but perhaps the C would be a better choice. Thank you all for your input 😊

I think Kara just looks nicer as well. It’s a beautiful name no matter which way you spell it so go with the spelling you prefer.

Not keen on Melody.

Kara is fine.

I like Evelyn but am used to it being pronounced Ev-e-lyn not Eve-e-lyn

FallenNight · 09/07/2026 11:05

I'd like Evelyn to be pronounced Ev-er-lyn

I have a lovely and very musical friend called Cara very sweet name.

Lomonald · 09/07/2026 11:08

Kara with a K is fine, it is a lovely name. Melody just sounds like Melanie you probably would be forever correcting people.

I prefer Kara but would spell it Cara.

Same

I like Evelyn too but some people will pronounce it “Ever lynn” and some “Eve lynn” and it’s also quite fashionable now so might become dated, whereas Cara is more timeless

ToadRage · 09/07/2026 11:11

Ev-uh-lyn is the American pronunciation i much prefer the British Eev-lyn. Most i have met recently have the American pronunciation.

I like Kara best, but prefer it spelled Cara.

Evelyn is lovely but very popular, and there are about three different ways to pronounce it.

I'm not so keen on Melody.

I really like Faith as a middle name.

Same, Cara is nice.

Eev-lyn isn't the pronunciation everywhere in Britain. It's definitely Ev-e-lyn in Scotland.

I'm struggling to hear what it sound like with 2 syllables.

NamingNoNames · 09/07/2026 11:56

Cara with a C or she'll be 'Kara with a K'
I don't like Evelyn

Yeah I am scottish my Aunty Evelyn is Ev-e-lyn, not Eve -lyn

patooties · 09/07/2026 12:29

I prefer Faith! Really don’t like Melody.
Kara is better as Cara and Eve ‘names’ are everywhere

Scaryspicer · 09/07/2026 12:41

I do like Evelyn but they will definitely be one of many Evie, Eve, Eva, etc in their class as they’re all so popular at the moment!

I prefer Cara to Kara (but I definitely prefer the similar name Keira!)

Firebird83 · 09/07/2026 21:20

Cara. Kara with a K feels a bit dated, probably because I know a few born in the 80s/90s.

inkgirl · 09/07/2026 21:23

I quite like Kara

LoudPlumDog · 10/07/2026 02:16

Cara, with a C.

Calliopespa · 10/07/2026 14:14

Melody is awful: Malady.

17caterpillars1mouse · 10/07/2026 16:11

I like Kara Faith best out of your choices. Evelyn is lovely, but a bit overdone and there are Evie's everywhere. It would be a lovely middle name though, as would Melody. I really like Faith as a first name too, not that you asked

HeggyPatt · 10/07/2026 19:01

Calliopespa · 10/07/2026 14:14

Melody is awful: Malady.

Not completely getting the 'Malady' comment to be honest. Are you saying that's how it would be pronounced? This could be applied to any name to be honest depending on your accent. Depends what area you live in, but thanks for your opinion anyway.

I get it. Melody is said as MEL-uh-dy, Malady as MAL-uh-dy. Some accents have E sounding like A.

AutumnAllTheWay · 10/07/2026 19:13

Kara Faith is a beautiful name

7238SM · 10/07/2026 19:22

I grew up abroad and had a good fried Kara. I've found that Cara is more popular in the UK, but I really prefer Kara.

What do the initials spell? KF...., EF......

I know its not musical, but I prefer Meloney or Melanie to Melody.

There really is so little in it - in most accents. And Malady is such an awful word.

elliesmummy19 · 10/07/2026 19:25

I really like both but if I can only choose one then it would probably be Evelyn.
