Frankie or Brynn for baby girl?

I prefer Frankie but my concern is it's more popular. We like uncommon names.
Brynn is very uncommon in our country.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

The one and only 😆

NamingNoNames · 06/07/2026 22:26

Gwen is better. Just don't add any extra letters.

DaysIllRememberAllMyLife · 06/07/2026 22:28

Anything but Brynn.

Well the name is a Welsh, so they have bastardised it.

Or...people do things differently in different countries, and that's OK. I'm quite sure we've bastardised a few things of our own.

HortiGal · 06/07/2026 22:49

Neither

And you've just reminded me why I never usually post on these forums. People have a real hard time being kind huh.

But people are "being kind" to your daughter.

On MN, we don't have a Topic for "please all agree with me and say how wonderful my thinking is".
If you ask 'the internet' their opinion on names, then people will give honest opinions - which is surely helpful ?
If you have already decided, then why post ?

I'm with everyone else.
I think it is very unkind to give a girl, a boy's name, so don't like either. Even if you spelt Bryn correctly.

I agree.

I spend a lot of time on name threads because I think it is one place where the honesty of anonymity is genuinely useful to the op.

We all know we gulp and try to smile when people IRL tell us they are naming their baby Murgatroyd because it's an old family name.

Brynn is awful for a girl. Very like Bryan.

Frankie is a popular boys and dogs name where I live but it would work as a shortening for Francesca.

You could have Briony or Brianne.

Or Brianna?

OP, I much prefer Frankie, but you’ve had some really mean replies!

I’ve just seen an account on IG and her name is Brynne.

@Calliopespa ohhh, haven't ever seen it. Though probably should have guessed with the Welsh connection! Lost reference makes sense now 😅

I thought perhaps it was some sort of valleys equivalent of Aunt Jemima

Edited

😆😆

pambeesleyhalpert · 07/07/2026 17:47

There was a Brynn on dance moms. I’m Welsh so it threw me but i really like it for w Girl!

flagpolesitta · 08/07/2026 15:30

I’m surprised that so many see Frankie as a boy name, I’m from the era that associates it strongly with Frankie from the Saturdays 😅

To be fair she didn’t ask for opinions on the names, she asked which name people preferred, you can say which you prefer even if you like neither

Me too! I don’t think of Frankie as a boys name at all! Frank obviously but not Frankie, I’ve never known a boy called Frankie (and I did go to school with a frank)

If you are dead set on Brynn, how about a hyphenated name? Brynn May sounds nice, in a familiar sort of way..
