What do you think of this name for a girl? I love a nice throwback name, and she’d likely be the only one at school (as it’s rarely used now). It sort of bothers me that there’s so many different ways to spell it (so would probably be misspelt frequently), but that is a concern with many names.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Love it. I'd spell it how you have. I also like Jonie, in the same vein. Not so much Josie though.

Pity we can't have any J names as it doesn't sound the same in my partner's country.

StationJack · 30/06/2026 11:26

It's good, a bit different but not odd. I've only met one ever.

Gardening2025 · 30/06/2026 11:27

It was on my list, I love it!

lavendervibes · 30/06/2026 11:28

I like it! Went to school with a male Jody, but much prefer it for females and spelt how you have spelt it.

Herstruly · 30/06/2026 11:41

I can only think of 3 ways to spell it.

Jodie, Jodi, Jody, Jodey, Jodee

Jodeigh (if you'd like to do a tragedeigh)

Jodie is fine.

Calliopespa · 30/06/2026 14:22

Sorry when I was young it was a bit of a "type" of name.

Jodie, Jodi, Jody, Jodey, Jodee

Jodeigh (if you'd like to do a tragedeigh)

Joe-Dee if you fancy a hyphen..?

StationJack · 30/06/2026 16:58

Jo-Dee is better. Joe-Dee looks like 'we really wanted a boy'
Not that I like hyphenated names. Jodie is sufficient.

Amazonjaunt · 30/06/2026 17:38

Jodie is a great name.

Machinemasoluem · 30/06/2026 20:01

I like Jodie and josie.

Not keen on funky spellings though

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 30/06/2026 20:47

Jodhi is another spelling (actress Jodhi May). I like it better spelled Jodie.

MysweetAudrina · 30/06/2026 21:42

It's my sister's name. She is 50 next year. Her spelling is Jodie.

Settlersa · 30/06/2026 21:48

It's quite nice, Jodie, it's quite an 80s name

ImJodywithay · 30/06/2026 21:50

I prefer it as Jody. As a 52yr old Jody, it was an easy name to grow up with (although I think my late Mum was somewhat put out by the explosion of 'Jodie's about 5-10 years after she named me)!

MyDuvetDay · 30/06/2026 21:52

My best friend was growing up was called Jodie so I love it. We are children of the early 80s. I haven’t heard the name much since then but reckon it’s due for a revival

Firebird83 · 30/06/2026 23:05

It’s quite dated but it’s not a bad name.

Zanatdy · 01/07/2026 04:06

My niece is Jodie. I’d say dated (she’s in her 30’s) but nice.

TeaAndMadeiraCake · 01/07/2026 04:09

It is a throwback name but a perfectly fine name.

firstofallimadelight · 01/07/2026 06:49

There were two Jodie’s/jodys in my primary school (80’s) i reckon it due a come back

Orphlids · 01/07/2026 20:55

I really like Jodie. It’s a nice name to say out loud. It’s got a really good, solid sound to it. I imagine a woman named Jodie would be confident and perhaps quite a cool girl. Friendly though. Jodie would be the spelling I’d go for, and would probably result in the fewest corrections.

Leavesandthings · 01/07/2026 21:17

It's a really nice name. It sounds really pretty and easy to pronounce and say for anyone. And it will be unusual in her year group.

Calliopespa · Yesterday 09:09

I'm really surprised by the politeness around this name. Usually MN is brutal and to me Jodie is a bit of a Jolene name! Maybe it is just the few I happened to know?

TooOrangey · Yesterday 09:10

Bit chavvy imo.
