Elliot/Elliott for a boy. Will it get shorted to Ellie ? And which spelling?

It's a lovely name and I've never met an Elliot I don't like. I've also never heard it shortened to Ellie. Great choice OP.

This is one of the few boys names I feel drawn to. To be honest I didn’t initially realise/associate it with being a surname. I like it, I think it sounds nice and is less on the popular side without being too “out there”. I think I would likely go for the spelling of Elliot or Elliott personally, not for any particular reason though!

Mine is an Elliot (double t is surname imo) and he now gets El.

odi1 · 17/06/2026 20:53

I find it a bit wet for some reason

Firebird83 · 17/06/2026 22:49

I’m not keen. I do agree that it should be one t for the first name, two for the surname.

StationJack · 18/06/2026 09:43

@odi1 , me too but the ones I know aren't wet.
It might be because it is vowelly.

How about Elio?

It avoids the estate agent thing and I think it sounds slightly more stylish. Elliott is fine but a bit sort of US Boffin to me. I imagine he wears y fronts!
