Sibling suggestions for Rosalind and Benedict

Swissmeringue · Yesterday 16:07

We're expecting our third (we don't know the sex yet, might wait until the baby arrives to find out).

Our children are Rosalind Mary Ellen (nn Rosie) and Benedict William Charles (nn Ben). We like quite traditional, formal names, that aren't overly popular, but with options for nicknames that are less formal while they are little.

We use family names for middle names, likely choices for middle names for a girl would be Jayne, Olive or Josephine. For a boy John, Patrick or Joseph. I quite like Madeline for a girl, I also like Emmeline but DH won't go for it. I'm at a bit of a loss for boy names though, we could go super traditional, so George, Henry etc. But nothing is inspiring me.

Suggestions are appreciated!!

I have a Benedict the meaning is - the blessed one
Rosalind meaning is - gentle, soft tender

So in a similar vein

Frederick - peaceful leader
Alexandra - defender of mankind

So Fred, Freddie
and Alex, Lexi

I wouldn’t go for Orlando or Beatrice if you have a Rosalind and Benedict.

Exactly this - but I would also add Cressida or Cordelia for a girl

I love Cressida! Can't see DH going for it but I'm adding it to the list.

Some lovely suggestions thank you all. I think part of the reason it's hard by the time you get to a third child is so many names are "taken". Half the names I've liked that people have suggested are names of my children's friends, or my friends children. It doesn't mean we can't use them, I do realise that, but it feels a bit weird to do so.

All boys

We never gave it a second thought if we knew people with the names we chose for the boys

Your kids will be around for a long time whilst others move on

Start a new theme - you'll need two more kids, but Tristan and Iseult fit with your current two.

I love the name Rosalind. It's a lovely classic. Benedict is great too.

Celia is beautiful too but perhaps too much of a Shakespearean pairing! Maybe Cecilia instead?
I don't think you need to stick a Shakespearean theme at all.
I expect most of these have already been suggested but I think they would fit well:

Dominic
Gregory
Lawrence
Sebastian
Alexander
Edmund
Edward
Thomas
Julian or Julius
Isaac
Leopold
Hugo
Linus
Nathaniel

Eleanor or Helena
Alice
Julia or Juliet
Claudia
Marianne
Adelaide
Genevieve
Marigold
Beatrix
Flora
Your suggestion of Emmeline is also lovely. It's a shame your DH doesn't like it.

Newnamehiwhodis · Today 03:43

Ophelia, of course.
Caliban, naturally

Marianne- this was my girl name - I had a boy.
Such a classic, beautiful name. Leonard Cohen's song made me love it. Gorgeous, I can't believe I left it off my list of suggestions!
