Do any of you share a name or a variation of a name with a cousin or second cousin??
is it manageable ? Would you do it?

sentimental name - not the reason that I just like a random name my family member liked just to clarify

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My mum has the exact same name as her SIL - as they were both Heathers and then married brothers with the same B surname. No one ever gets them confused. I mean we're not that far beyond the years when everyone in a family would be called 'John' and it was 'John Senior', 'John Junior' and 'Baby John'!

Not me personally but we have many men in my family same first and second name. Never been an issue!

Koulibiak · Yesterday 20:04

Yes, this runs a lot in my family, I have two aunts Nicola (same surname), two aunts Petra (same surname), two cousins Emily (same surname) etc. Afaik it’s never been an issue for anyone at all. Many of them live in very small towns too.

I knew 3 siblings, two men & a woman. Both men married women with the same name as their sister - Sue I think, so there were 3 Sues with the same surname. I think the siblings ran a family business together, but somehow everyone managed to know who was who ok!

Friends who had a blended family had four Jameses among the grandchildren, so cousins. I wouldn't worry.

God yes. Not me as my name is a bit unusual in the UK, but we have multiple Sarahs, James, even Stella … I don’t think it matters as we have special names for each so Sarah P for example, Sarah J, we
habe a Jim, Jimmy and James … Stella was mum and daughter so aunty / grandma etc usually works to split them up

I know a family where 2 sisters both gave their daughter the same name. There was quite an age gap between the 2 girls and the younger cousin was generally called 'little Sophie' or 'Julia's Sophie' when clarification of which one was being discussed was needed. It never seemed to be an issue

I also know 2 SIL's who have exactly the same forename & surname and, again, it's never been an issue

In my own family I have a niece and a nephew's wife who have the same forename. One of them is known by both her forenames, e.g. Emily Jane, to differentiate between them

It's been no more of a problem than having colleagues in the same office who have the same name (I once worked in a department with 5 Andrew's!)

I’m Alice - my cousin is Alison

my son is Ewan and my nephew Ieuan

I’ve got the same name as my cousin. Our mothers were pregnant at the same time I was born and named and my mums SIL told my mum that she had been going to call her baby the same name and my mum said she still should.

We are 52 now and it’s never been confusing at all.

LizandDerekGoals · Yesterday 21:25

I have two cousin‘s called Elaine. Not a family sentimental name. Both mums just liked it. No issues.

icannotlivelaughloveintheseconditions · Yesterday 21:36

We had a family member die dh wanted to give our dd a variation of that name so we did then dhs cousin gave their child the name. So say Elizabeth and Lizzie. It was fine

I share a name with three of my cousins, but I am the only one who has it as a first name. We are named after our grandmother.

I also have two cousins who have the same first name, think "Christopher". It is a family name. One of them is called Christopher, the other one is called Chris most of the time. No problem.

And in all honesty what issues are we expecting? Being bedded by the wrong DH? For the most part, the right Nicola will ensure she is in the right place.

I know a few Sarah's brother married a Sarah or Mark's sister married a Mark.

Know lots of second cousins with the same name. The names are usually very common and the surnames different e.g. Jack Smith and Jack Jones.
It's only weird if it's an unusual non-family name.
