What do you think the top / trending baby names of the next five years will be?

…based on what people are naming their babies at the moment, which names you hear loads of in nurseries and playgrounds etc. Will Olivia, Amelia, Isla, Noah, Jude etc ever die out?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Runsaway · Yesterday 13:24

Those names are quite dated to me for current use for babies. Eg, both the Judes and Noahs I know are nearly 30 and one has his own child. But those names aren’t going to die out. They’re all very long-standing names that are going to go in and out of popularity like everything else.

Will Olivia, Amelia, Isla, Noah, Jude etc ever die out? Yes but not in the next five years, they'll just fade away a bit.

There are 'newer' names becoming popular. If you consider Jack, it was hugely popular in the 1990s (nearly 11,000 registered in 1996) but is still at no. 22.
Names like Zac and Jackson sound similar and have become popular.
Harry was very popular in the 1990s and 2000s but is still in the top 20. Henry has become more popular in that time.

Names that have fallen in popularity have been ones that are ones with a more distinctive sound - Rebecca (still nice & classic), Chloe (fashion/perfume), Darcey (celebrity), Shannon (tv character) etc.

I’d love to see the return of John, Susan, Elizabeth and Steven. I like the comfort of the traditional names. But I don’t see it happening in the next five years. People are too easily swayed by celebrities and the ‘need’ to have unique names.

Silverbirchleaf · Yesterday 15:12

I think some names like Peter, Robert , Christopher, Daniel, Samuel, Sebastian etc will see a rise . Not sure about girls.

AngelsHadGuitars · Yesterday 16:01

From what I see on here, I think for girls, Late Gen X and early millennial names seem to be rearing their sometimes ugly or over popular heads - Chloe, Rebecca/Becky/Becca, Hannah, Lisa, Louise, Amy, Tiffany, Daphne(! might be Bridgerton related), Tina, Maria, Emma.

Names ending in 'ee' sound still seem to be popular round my way though.

Perhaps the same for boys? More standard (boring) names like Michael, Paul, Christopher, Richard maybe?

Not sure though, might be wrong!

I think these are coming back now. I know a young John, Elizabeth and Stephen.

Sebastian has peaked I think and Christopher hasn't gone away but Kit is used more.

It's too soon for Gen X and Millennial names but names from the Silent Generation (1928 - 1945) and the earller Baby Boomer (1946 - 1964) years
might be back.

Those are Silent Generation names.

Personally I don't think there will be any major changes in the current top 10 over the next 5 years.

The current trends for nature names, ie/y short forms as given names, surnames as first names and vintage names will all continue to feature heavily in the top 100. More and more international names will also feature.

PancakeCloud · Yesterday 19:06

Cora, Maeve, River, Sacha, Felix

NamingNoNames · Yesterday 19:40

There won't be major changes but we have the England and Scottish teams in the World Cup.

Bellybellas · Yesterday 20:41

Old names like Dorothy, Rosemary, Florence etc and Christopher, Quentin, Leonard etc

BookishBobby · Yesterday 20:52

I think there are more Cornish & Welsh names being used for girls (I'm in the South of England). Elowyn, in particular, seems popular

And I think boys are more frequently being given 'surname' type forenames e.g. Miller, Franklin, Archer etc

A few years ago, in the church I attend, Biblical names, particularly Naomi, Sarah, Hannah, Rebecca, Samuel, Jacob, Elijah, Daniel, Jonathan and Nathaniel, were very popular. And names with a Christian connotation such as Bethany and Grace were also much used. More recently babies have been given non-Biblical names with the exception of Noah which is very popular

NamingNoNames · Yesterday 21:34

@BookishBobby , Elowyn is a misspelling of Elowen (-wyn is masculine), and El- names are popular. Neither are popular (Baby name explorer) but you get names being popular in an area.

Traditional names seem popular in the church I go to (NT not OT).
