List of boys names. Looking for a slightly unusual historic classic

I'm stuck and can't choose a boy name. We have picked Rosamund for a girl. What is the natural choice for a boy if we like Rosamund? Siblings are Claudia and Morwenna, surname is two syllables and english, similar to Thompson. I like unusual names and prefer underused classics or something literary and historic that isn't likely to trend into the top 100 soon. I would rather avoid something that leans too far into festival/hippy territory or influencer baby name, or that is likely to rise into the top 100 anytime soon as I don't want a name that might sound very of it's time in 20 years. Claudia was nearly Aurelia which is beautiful but now everywhere, for example.

I was originally leaning towards Rafe, which also happens to be a family name, but less so now. It has a nice sound, historic roots, and an interesting meaning, but there are the spelling issues and also a friend told me it is the name of character in an american netflix show might signify that Rafe will become very trendy soon if it isn't already? Ralph is already very popular, how many of those are 'Rafe'? The Rafe spelling seems the only way to avoid confusion with Ralph. Is Rafe starting to sound a bit like Max or Zac, everywhere now, or is it still uncommon? A few of these names like Victor, Hector and Edmund might fall into the vintage grandad name trend like Alfred, Arthur etc so I'm wondering if that means they are also due a revival?

The list:
Benedict
Peregrine (I love this name but it is quite marmite. I'm not sure whether people will assume we are Lord of the rings fans alongside the slightly elvish sound of Morwenna, or just find it highly pretentious. We live in the countryside but not in Chatsworth. I like it because it is an old latin name, underused and makes me think of falcons and the outdoors.)
Conrad
Wulfric - too fantasy novel?
Ranulph - not sure how others perceive this?
Francis (Frank) - Trendy?
Geraint - Welsh. Pronunciation issues?
Edmund
Nathaniel
Hadrian
Cosmo (It is an old name, but I think it might sound quite glastonbury/alternative in modern usage? I particularly love the meaning and also like Cosimo/Cosima, but have no italian heritage. Kosmas is the greek version).
August/Augustus (very trendy?)
Hector - trendy?
Ptolemy - too pretentious?
Leofric (it's pronounced Lef-rich, the husband of Lady Godiva) - DH's suggestion.
Galahad - DH's suggestion but I think it is too theatrical for a first name.
Rafe - This spelling to avoid confusion with Ralph now that the latter has become so popular as 'ralf'.
Apollo - Not sure how this comes off, similar to Cosmo?
Constantine
Magnus
Victor
Sylvan/Silvan

Also open to other suggestions that fit a similar niche to Rosamund.

Family names to potentially include in the middle:
Peter or Ralph ('Rafe'. An older family member who is not 'posh' at all so I assume Rafe was once the standard pronunciation.)
maybe Odysseas/Odysseus (quite a common Greek name with a Greek spelling, a name from DH's side). I don't think I 'm brave enough to use this as a first name in the UK.

OP posts:

Please be mindful of how this little person will spend the rest of their life with this name, some of your suggestions are so off the wall that I think they will either be picked on at school or have to explain be commented on in adulthood. I like Nathaniel, Arthur or Conrad. Please don't call him Ptolomy or Galahad

Ptolemy and Galahad😂😂😂😂

I love some of these. But do try to imagine him as a bloke down the pub. Victor is my favourite. Always think of the inevitable one syllable shortening.
What do you call Rosamund when you yell for her in the park?

Danikm151 · Yesterday 19:16

There are reasons some of these names dropped out of popularity. Make it easy to pronounce and spell for your child’s sake.

We have a nephew Ranulph (22). I really love it.

I also really like Laurent and Fabian.

Wes, or Wesley

Love your style! Peregrine is a favourite of mine, think it’s totally useable. Also love Rosamund!

My list for my son, in case you like any of these, was:
Lysander
Emrys
Caspian
Peregrine
Artemis

Think Odysseus as a middle name is very cool.

I know a Ptolemy, nn Tolly, and I think it is lovely!

Sylvan is fantastic

Nathaniel is nice. Hector and Edmund are ok too. Some of the others would be really awful to lumber a child with.

Laurence…a lovely name

Tudor - I believe it's welsh so would go well with Morwenna.

moodbored · Yesterday 19:33

I wouldn't go too wild, your kid's got to live with the name. I think Nathaniel, Edmund, Rafe (not spelt Ralph) or really like the suggestion of Lawrence.

NuffSaidSam · Yesterday 19:34

Benedict - Nice. Will likely be Ben day to day though so one to avoid of you need the 'unusual' element. Although potentially best if both worlds.

Peregrine - not for me. I don't like the sound of it and I'm not keen on Perry which is what it will inevitably become.

Conrad - I like this. I think it meets all you requirements, no obvious shortenings.

Wulfric - too much for me!

Ranulph - a bit try hard imo. Like it screams 'we need to be different' which is maybe not a bad thing if that's what you're like?

Francis (Frank) - I love this. But I do know a few little Frank/Frankie's.

Geraint - Welsh. Not keen on the sound of it personally, but fine.

Edmund - Will be Ed/Eddie which is quite popular.

Nathaniel - nice. Mainstream, but not overused. Nate is nice too.

Hadrian - not keen. Sounds like an affected version of Adrian.

Cosmo - I know a few little Cosmo's. It's on the increase in London and quite likely that will spread. I think it will be top 100 in the coming years. I also know a Cosmas.

August/Augustus - I don't know any. Not keen though. Too Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for me!

Hector - I don't think it's trendy, although I do know one. I like it.

Ptolemy - too pretentious? Yes I think so.

Leofric - will be constantly mispronounced.

Galahad - let's not be silly.

Rafe - quite popular. My DC1 has a friend called Rafe, DC2 unable to pronounce this correctly just calls him Rape, which isn't ideal!

Apollo - a bit influencer trendy.

Constantine - nice

Magnus - fine.

Victor - not keen.

Sylvan/Silvan - fine, not my taste, but ok.

How about:

Inigo
Horatio
Percy
Amadeus

windyinthewillows76 · Yesterday 19:38

Geraint is easy to pronounce. But it's popular where I am for older men 40+

SpringingOn · Yesterday 19:39

I really like Claudia and Rosamund. My favourite name currently is Rafe and I had (some) of your names on my list.

I like Wulfric, Hector and Victor. I also like Nathaniel but know a few of them. Constantine and Sylvan are also nice (though I would assume Constantine was Central European rather than British if that matters to you).

I don't like Hadrian or Cosmo as would assume upper class bore.

I am not especially keen on but don't have anything against Conrad, Francis, Edmund, August, Benedict.

I would class some as too pretentious or a bit too LOTR with Morwenna - this would include Peregrine, Augustus, Ptolemy, Galahad and Apollo. I would include Leofric in this but actually really like it.

I would assume Ranulph was named after Ranulph Fiennes. I prefer the name Rafe.

Geraint - great name but a bit random if you are not Welsh.

I have always disliked the name Magnus.

Other suggestions: Oisin, Laurence, Isidore, Fabian, Wilfred, Jago, Idris.
