Last name is two syllables beginning with R.

Middle name we think will be George.

Well not Dennis or Gilbert imo ...

Alistair - like but multiple spellings. Some stress the stair, which I don't like. Might get called Al or Ali. Goes best with the middle name but I wouldn't let that influence me.
Casper - like but there are more than one spelling (Caspar, Casper, Kasper etc)
Dennis - like but two spellings. Denis is a bit too close to Penis
Gilbert - I don't like it or the initials GG

@NamingNoNames thanks! I think the spellings would be as above. I don't mind Ali or Al as a shortening if that happens with wider friends/family, though as parents we're unlikely to shorten it.

Interesting that you wouldn't let the middle name influence you when it goes with Alistair but would influence if the first initial also started with G. I thought GG could be quite a cool nickname! We have European heritage so might also use a J version of George, though currently in debate about whether that would change how people say it (and whether it matters for a middle name).

Dennis was my daughters suggestion (I asked if it was inspired by Dennis the Menace/Dennis and Gnasher but she'd never heard of him, so not sure where it came from!!). The 4 of us all have a different fave, so thought we'd put it to a vote.

Though since posting people are now also talking about Elliot. So who knows!!!

I was thinking this morning that it was about time Sylvester was resurrected. Sorry, that’s not helpful!

@Arlanymor you're probably right! In this family though he's definitely still a cat. Along with Felix!

@Namiemcnameface , I think the spellings would be as above. My post was more to do with other people misspelling them.

Same goes for Elliot. Elliott and Eliot are in use.

GG 🐴

Namiemcnameface · 06/06/2026 14:54

Ohhhh I see. Yes, I have a name like that. Good point that it can be annoying if you allow it to be. Though better than being pronounced incorrectly imo.

I don't get the 🐴 thing

All are fine. Use all of them. DM had 4 names and my DC have 3 each. Use whatever suits after birth!

NamingNoNames · 06/06/2026 15:04

Horse - geegee. The geegees is used as slang for horses or horse-racing, or placing bets on horse races. It's from what little children call a horse. Children say things like woof-woof for dog, quack-quack for duck, moo-moo for cow etc.
Have you considered ?Smile

(My name only has one spelling but people get it wrong and the misspellings and mispronunciations are ugly, or they get it completely wrong and use a different name and it's never a name that sounds nice or current. )

Namiemcnameface · 06/06/2026 15:09

@NamingNoNames wow haven't ever heard of it! I have heard other people referring to ducks as quack quacks...we always just went with duck! Have heard the song, don't think it would in influence me when choosing a baby name 🤣 more associate neigh with a horse than g.

Aww I love that!

NamingNoNames · 06/06/2026 15:17

Neigh! It's well-known slang in the UK. If someone said might 'He blew his wages on the geegees.', it would mean he spends too much money betting on horses.

Arlanymor · 06/06/2026 15:19

@Namiemcnameface PS. We used to have a Felix too. He’s gone to the great cat hammock in the sky. He was brilliant fun as he totally went against the notion that cats are clever things. He would spend HOURS sitting on the window sill in the lounge looking out into the garden, totally vacant stare. We always used to say he was having a Felix moment and this was his internal thought: “Am I on the outside looking in or the inside looking out?!” You could almost see this cogs whirring. Very, very, slowly. He was a lovely boy.
