Girls names that go with Charlotte?

Rockyroad1992 · 02/06/2026 20:23

Hi all,
We have just found out that we are expecting baby number 2 so starting to think of names.

We already have a Charlotte. For a boy we are agreed on Henry but we are struggling to agree on a girls name that we both love. I do like traditional names, but have removed Emma and Emily from the shortlist as I don’t like them enough.

Ideas so far:
Eve (love this one)
Lily (overdone but very sweet)
Georgina
Elizabeth/Eliza
Lucy
Alice
Katherine (like this but worry it’s a bit too royal paired with Charlotte!)

Any thoughts/suggestions are welcome :)

I like Evelyn pronounced “Eeevlin”

For something a bit different:

Vanessa
Geraldine
Gillian
Hannah

Charlotte Marie

Sorry just to clarify I already have a dd called Charlotte. Thanks all for the suggestions, some I haven’t considered. DH likes Alice a lot but I’m not sure if it’s ’the one.’

Thanks all, I really like Josephine (nn Josie) and Grace however am conscious that this sounds bad in my northern accent. Also like Poppy but not sure if it goes with Charlotte. Hadn’t considered Abigail which is also a nice name.

Nothing sounds bad in a northern accent! All’t words sound fantastic.

Charlotte has inspired a Bronte vibe but you don’t like Emily. How about:

Catherine
Isabella
Jane
Lucy
Nellie
Anne or Annie

Starting to agree re the longer name. She is Charlotte, we don’t shorten it :)

In that case I think you need a name with 2 syllables possibly 1. Charlotte is a long spelling but only 2 syllables so is said quick iykwim.

if you introduced them as Charlotte and Mya for example, in words they are the same 2 syllables but in writing they look very short and quite long!

Go for a classic name you love, most old lady ‘come back’ names would go or those classics that have always been around like Grace, Chloe or Lucy.

I don’t think an in vogue name would go such as Lilah, Mia, Poppy or Aria.

What do you prefer currently?
Alice is nice.

Alice goes well with Charlotte.
So do:
Eleanor
Elizabeth
Victoria
Natalie

Did you actually read the post? They already have a Charlotte. She’s not looking for a middle name to go with it

Edited

I did but clearly misinterpreted it. Thank you for pointing out my mistake so kindly - let's hope you never make a little boo-boo on here...!

@Rockyroad1992 sorry! The name Eve definitely would be a good choice though, I really like it.

Dragonflyspeeding · 04/06/2026 23:37

I know siblings named Charlotte and Harriet and I always think they sound a bit try hard together.
Vivienne
Grace
Eleanor
There are so many lovely names suggested above.

BeaLola · 04/06/2026 23:41

Beatrice
Eleanor
Margot
Louisa
Alice

Rockyroad1992 · 05/06/2026 08:36

I would like to go with a two syllable name as both myself and DH have two syllables too. So far we love:
Lucy
Eve
Freya
Alice
Eliza (bit concerned this is too royal matchy with Charlotte but it’s a long time favourite of mine)

So many lovely names have been suggested, thanks all. My DH is keen on Lily but I think I do prefer more traditional names. I realise Lily is traditional but it doesn’t quite fit with what I was after, really.

Charlotte and Lily are nice together. You could also have Elizabeth, Olivia or Lilian with nickname Lily

Xmasallergies · 05/06/2026 21:44

Phoebe?

Lily is nice but there are sooo many

I think I would choose Eliza

From those choices, I would get rid of Freya. It's very pretty but not a French/British classic like Charlotte and it's also been very popular in the last 20 years.
I particularly like Alice and Eliza. Evie has been so popular in the last 25 years that this might put me off Eve, although it is a beautiful name unshortened. Lucy is also a great classic.

Out of the classic type names, I also love Eleanor, Rosalind and Celia/Cecilia but they all have the wrong number of syllables!

mathanxiety · 06/06/2026 03:44

From your list, I think Charlotte and Alice would be perfect.

Alternatives:
Jemima
Matilda
Annabel
Beatrix
Rosina
Christabel
Eleanore
Felicity
Penelope
Harriet
Leonora
Olivia
Tessa
Winifred

Thank you for your comment, I do agree re Freya. I do very much love Eliza but can’t decide to choose Elizabeth with nn Eliza or Eliza in its own right. Also love Alice, Lucy and Eve. The popularity of Evie/Ava etc type names steers me away from Eve a bit, which is a shame really as I do love it.

Eliza is a lovely choice. Elizabeth would lean a bit royal with Charlotte but definitely not an issue with Eliza as it is a different name in its own right.

BatsInHibernation · 06/06/2026 20:28

Two syllables, without an obvious nn, to go well with Charlotte
Eva
Ava
Ivy
Iris
Clara
Ellen
Thea
Anna
Lilah
Sophie
Nina
Cara
Polly
Nancy
Esther
Lois
Louise

OccasionalHope · 06/06/2026 23:01

What about Alexandra?

I may be a bit unusual but I have never liked the name Elizabeth much. It sounds too formal and unattractive to me. I've always loved Eliza though, initially because of the My Fair Lady film with Hepburn! I don't think you will regret using any of those names though.

I have a Charlotte and my youngest is Isobel Florence. I think Charlotte and Isobel go beautifully together but I’m biased! X.
