Why do people assume PNA or PND over baby name regret?

Why is it that so many will assume that a mum has PNA or PND when she’s regretting her baby’s name? I understand that this may be what it is sometimes, but it seems a bit extreme how people assume that a mum can’t simply regret the name she has chosen without there being an underlying MH or hormonal cause.

My sister experienced baby name regret shortly after her son was born, and it was truly just about the name. They changed my nephew’s name, and she’s much more satisfied with their second choice. It hasn’t been mentioned since.

Because, judging solely by the posts on here about it, often repeated ones from the same poster still endlessly ruminating about a deeply ordinary name, it clearly is symptomatic of an underlying condition, whether that’s PND or a depressive illness that predates their baby, or some other condition. Or simply struggling to adjust to parenthood.

The ones who realise they rushed and chose a dud name tend to change it fairly early without much agonising.

Posters are probably just trying to be helpful.
Not everyone knows that name regret can be a sign of PND.

OP, I'm happy to hear that your sister and her partner could change their child's name to a name they liked better.

@Ennem , what @SlightlyAjar said.
When someone has a baby they are under pressure to name them almost immediately and often the father will push for his choice of first names and surname.

The mother will often fixate on the name. On here, the user sometimes starts several threads about the same name, often under different usernames.

Often, the name isn't the problem, it might be the home situation or PND, but obsessing about something can be a symptom of depression. In such cases, changing the name won't address the actual issue.
