I like it a lot.
My Mum put me off though by saying she associated it with dancer Isadora Duncan who died when her long silk neck scarf became entangled in the car’s open-spoked rear wheel.

Firebird83 · 30/05/2026 09:44

I prefer the Isidora spelling.

bolognazey · 30/05/2026 09:51

It’s lovely.

LlynTegid · 30/05/2026 09:55

Like the name, be prepared for shortening.

TheMillionthBeautyAddict · 30/05/2026 09:56

Love it. And it’s probably far less likely nowadays that it will get changed to Wizadora than when I was growing up.

Enko · 30/05/2026 12:11

I am not a fan

Yes it did! I think that very upsetting accident is why the name waned in popularity.

But there are aspects of it that are rather pretty and I can see why you would consider it as an alternative to Isabella, which has been so heavily used.

However, If I am honest, I think Isabella is the nicer name, simply because I find "d" names rather heavy and dour, and, after a brief flirt with the soft syllables of "Isa" the name then lands rather on the much less elegant "Dora." Which is, essentially, "Door-Uh" and does not appeal to me at all.

Strangely I hear the Dora less in Theadora - maybe because the Thea holds its own a little more.

But, overall, I would understand why someone had chosen Isadora.

TinyMouseTheatre · 30/05/2026 18:56

I love Isadora but there are an awful lot of Izzy’s in our area.

ManyShapesOfPasta · 30/05/2026 19:01

Too much like the thousands of Isabels of whichever spelling.

molevalleyfanclub · 30/05/2026 19:02

Love it. But she will be called Izzy… or Dora… or even Dot.

Immediately comes to my mind but I agree, I don't imagine many, if any, children would know the reference! I don't really like Isadora but that is the only reason I can think of that it doesn't sound quite right to me.

LivingTheDreamish · 30/05/2026 19:48

I love it and you have Isa and Dora as options to avoid the overused Izzy.

My only hesitation would be the meaning as it relates to Isis in Greek mythology. I don't think it would put me off but just something to be aware of.

Izzwizzo · 30/05/2026 20:12

I have one! Love the name and she loves it too. Always refers to herself as Isadora but as a nn we tend to use Ado or Do. Have never had anything other than compliments about her name. I was worried about the Isis connection but it’s never been mentioned

massivestress · 30/05/2026 20:21

Is it eye - za - dora or is - a - dora?

ANiceCuppaTeaandBiscuit · 30/05/2026 20:25

The theme tune for Isadora Moon popped straight into my head. A very poplar book series & tv series with girls, and she’s a vampire. I do like the name but I wonder would she get that a lot from kids once in school.

We say Is-a - Dora but I’ll be honest not sure if that’s the original pronunciation

SkippitySkoppity · 30/05/2026 20:35

It does remind me of scarf related tragic endings.

Aside from that I think it's just a bit too frilly for my taste.

Peanutlicious · 31/05/2026 15:41

Love it

csg376 · 01/06/2026 10:03

It is quite frilly and flouncy but I like it. Izzy is a boring nn though.

Gothamcity · 01/06/2026 10:05

It reminds me of the vampire books. Isadora Moon. It's a lovely name though, just that's my first thought when I hear it

ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 01/06/2026 11:40

I think it's really pretty, although if I was going down the Harriet Muncaster route I'd have chosen Mirabelle. I kind of wish I'd named by daughter Mirabelle, I just didn't think of it beforehand.

ToadRage · 01/06/2026 11:51

I personally don't like it. I like Dora but I think the Isa spoils it. Also makes me think Wizadora.

WhereTheWeatherSuitsMyClothes · 01/06/2026 14:35

'Wizadora, we adore her', that's all I hear when I hear Isadora. It was a very irritating kids show in the 90's. But I imagine neither you nor her peers will know of that (thank God!).

If it wasn't for that association I'd think it was a wonderful name! Although chances are she'll get called Izzy along with most of the countless Isobels/Isabels out there and no one would know she has a more interesting name, unless you and her always insists on the full name.

I was singing the theme tune before I even opened the thread 😅🤣 but agree that will only be people of a certain age...so, all her friends parents!
