Thoughts on Shauna for a girl? I’ve just heard this name for the first time whilst watching Yellowjackets with my niece and quite like it. It’s different without being too unusual. As names are on my mind, I should probably stay away from all media whilst pregnant. 🙈

Lovely name - to me it’s Irish - have a beautiful cousin called Shauna and have heard of a few more over the years in Ireland or with Irish roots. Don’t associate it with the Scottish Shona - which would be pronounced very differently in Ireland and England.

Shona is a better spelling

That’s a completely different name. Not an alternative spelling.

Well, it isn’t, though. The Irish female firm of Seán is Sinéad. It’s not much used here. I’d have said the profile probably wasn’t that different to England/Wales (Scotland may well be v different) — briefly very popular in the 90s, but now hardly used. V dated . Shaunagh even less used, though again briefly popular in the nineties.

It is a proper name but to me it is rather dated and not the nicest. It is very reminiscent of Shona to me, which I really don't like.

I didn't say it wasn't an alternative spelling of the same name, although the wording implies it.

I think (the) Shauna (spelling) doesn't look nice but Shona does.

Both are feminine forms of John.

I could have said I don't like the Shawn spelling, the Ewan spelling is better.

Sorry you are wrong - Sinead is the Irish version of Jane.

Yes and Jane is the feminine form of John

@Twisterr , what's with the passive aggressive Sorry? She's not wrong.
