Callie is lovely. I know one little Callie and it really suits her.

Thanks, I don't know if it's ok as a full name on a birth certificate or if it needs to be short for something.

@Harmony10 , some of the names have appeared on several threads recently, which sent my name regret spidey senses off.
Because I've been on here a while I tend to select see all or do an advanced search before answering.

Catherine nn Cassie would be a good choice IMO.

I only know two Melissas and they were born about 1970. Lots of Melanies that age.

BearTail · 17/05/2026 15:22

I like Carina, Carrie, Callie
Not Cassie at all sadly (makes me think of a dogs name) but I love Cassidy?
catrina is ok…
Catherine is not for me, a bit old and a bit square, cath and Kathy such old fashioned nicknames too..
Like Cara, Josie, Marissa
Maria is a bit old
Marina I love
Martina sounds a little bit like 80s party girl…
Annie is harmless, cute, but not for me.. feels a little dull
Alanna and Alina Alyssa just feel a bit sort of overdone in terms of the sounds and letters recently. Bit sick of those sorts of names..
Lily also beautiful but very overdone
Lisa very old school
Lissa and Libby pretty cute
hope that helps! Overall I like your taste ☺️

Is Cassie ever short for Catherine I've never heard it used like that?

Annie is gorgeous

Harmony10 · 17/05/2026 15:31

@BearTail Thankyou. Cassidy is nice, a bit american but I don't necessarily mind that and it would definitely shorten to Cassie. Cassandra would be another option. Do you think Cassie works as a nickname as long as there's a longer name on the bc?

I’m glad Annie is making a comeback ! It’s my name and I’ve always thought it frumpy , although I’m no spring chicken . Let’s have lots of Annie’s!

StationJack · 17/05/2026 15:34

It's not but it could be. It's a nickname not a diminutive.

Sometimes the sibling can't say the name properly as the 'nn' sticks.

Yes I think things like that just happen naturally though with friends or siblings, you can't really force it.

I like classic timeless names so would go for Catherine, Josephine, which I would shorten to Josie, Maria or Anna (Annie).

Idrathertalktomycat · 17/05/2026 15:57

I love Annie, Carrie and Callie.
I think they work fine as independent names (if that's what you want).

I have a long name on my birth certificate but have only ever gone by the shortened version. Apart from official documents.
I have always wished my parents had just named me the shorter version as that's what I'm known as.

I like Marina, Alyssa, Lily and Alana. I prefer Melissa to Marissa (though nice) and you could have Lissa or Lissy. I know a Lissy who was a Felicity.

Pemba · 17/05/2026 16:11

I like Maria and Catherine, very classic and also Marina, Alyssa, and Alanna (shouldn't there be an H on the end of Alannah?) Quite like Marissa although I prefer Melissa. Have you considered Alicia, pronounced the British way as al-LISS-ee-uh, not American al-LEESH-uh?

Callie, Cassie and Annie are all lovely too, but I feel they should be short for longer names.

The only one I wouldn't use would be Lily, it's pretty but there have been soo many over the last couple of decades.

Tellmetomorrow57 · 17/05/2026 16:41

I like Alyssa, Marissa (depends if you were an oc fan though) and I actually really like Melissa but not if it was going to be shortened to Mel!

DemonsandMosquitoes · 17/05/2026 17:14

Love
Catherine, I would have this as a middle name
Cara
Alyssa - prefer Elissa

Also like Alicia, Cassandra, Zara, Saskia.

Mumofgirls2017 · 17/05/2026 17:53

Callie, Cassie or Cara

Firebird83 · 17/05/2026 21:20

I know a Callie short for Caroline

I like Catherine and Marina

Calliopespa · 17/05/2026 21:22

Catherine gets a thumbs up from me.

Lisa, Libby and Lily can be used as diminutives for Elizabeth, and I like them all as such/ Libby I think is just a bit sappy without the full name on the BC, though it is sweet for every day.

Lisa I think can stand alone, as, as a standalone name I think it is due a revival. It's pretty, and I prefer it to the less classic doubling of the s in Lissa.

Cassie and Annie I feel similarly about: pretty but really needs to be short for, say, Cassandra or Anneliese, even if she is Cassie or Annie every day.

Marina is a good classic. Not a favourite of mine as I never feel a marina is that nice a spot - lots of squawking seagulls and the smell of fish and ships' diesel. But if you like it - and we all like different things - it is a perfectly good name. Ditto Maria. Do you like Marianna? Or Marianne?

Alyssa is quite nice.

APinkAndSpottyGiraffey · 17/05/2026 21:36

Callista would be a great‘longer’ name for Callie?

Callista would be a great‘longer’ name for Callie?

I agree. Or even Lissy if you like the Lissa/Melissa sound.

Giraffehaver · 17/05/2026 22:10

Alyssa Marissa and Josie are my favourites

flowerworld · 18/05/2026 09:29

My favourites are cassie Annie and libby. Lily is nice but very popular

WhereTheWeatherSuitsMyClothes · 18/05/2026 12:48

Oh what lovely names!
Favourites: Cassie, Libby, Callie, Carina, Josie
Not keen: Maria, Marina, Martina, Catherine & Lisa

A few of these names are shortenings of longer names Cassandra (and others) = Cassie. Josephine = Josie. Elizabeth = Libby. Some people get really uppety if you don't give them the full version of the name! Personally I don't think it matters.

Carina - very nice, might get some people saying Ca rinn uh and some saying Ca reen uh, if that bothers you
Carrie - Lovely name, some generations may associate it with Sex and The CIty but certainly not the peers of a girl botn now as I beleive current young women thinkingg it's an awfullt dated show 😃
Callie - love!
Cassie - Love slightly more than Callie
Catrina - Bit 90's for me I think, but quite nice
Catherine - Really rather boring compared to all you other names. But it's a can;t go wrong classic.
Cara - Very lovely
Josie - Gorgeous
Marissa - BIt early 90's although might be thinking of Clarissa
Maria - current 50 year old lady. It's alright
Marina - Same as Maria
Martina - Same as Maria, really not a fan of this one
Annie - cute
Alanna - lovely
Alina - Lovely and unusual, I've not heard this before anyway
Alyssa - Lovely
Lissa - Might get confused with Lisa, I like the sound though
Lisa - Incredibly dull 80's90's there were thousands of them, it is nice but it was very popular once upon a time and to me is very boring, bit like Catherine
Libby - really love Libby
Lily - Very popular right now or very recently if that bothers you, it is pretty though

Good luck, lovely names.

Also, I am totally with you on the username changing thing, there are some really weird and stalker-ish people on mumsnet!
