These are my final four and I love them all but have had feedback from others.

Cassiopeia - it is long would nn to Cassie but DP doesn't want nn as whole name

Kassiopi - prefer the sound but isn't a name but a place in Greece- again nn to Kassie

Astoria - I love but friend said it reminds her of the hotel chain

Doralis - nn Dora. Could be mistake for Dolores which I won' like as much

Never heard of Cassiopeia and I think 99% of people will struggle to spell it. Cassie is a nice nickname but will it be awkward if there's already a Cassia in your family? Cassie can also be a nn for Caroline if you want another option.

Doralis nn Dora. If you want the nn Dora, I'd go for Dorathea or Theodora, which both sound nicer than Doralis to me.

Astoria - my favourite.

HugoThatway · 15/05/2026 09:53

Never heard of Cassiopeia OK. People struggle with quite ordinary names.
You've misspelt Dorothea.

Whiteconehorse · 15/05/2026 10:00

I find it strange that you’re avoiding Cassia as there’s a family member with the name, yet going for the very similar Cassie as the day-to-day name.

I’m not mad about any of the choices, sorry OP.

dailyconniptions · 15/05/2026 10:03

I much prefer Cassia to any of those.

Livpool · 15/05/2026 14:18

Having stayed in the Waldorf I immediately thought of the hotel with Astoria! Cassiopeia would be my choice - although it depends on your area. It wouldn’t work where I live unless you/your child wanted to discuss constantly.

Calliope? Callie for short? Easier to spell and slightly less of a mouthful than Cassiopeia.

Love that!

Coulddowithanap · 15/05/2026 14:21

I don't know how to pronounce them

mexs · 15/05/2026 14:25

I love calliope but am not as in love with Callie as I am Cassie. I know I will end up using the nn more!

My choice would be Cassie long name Cassandra

Marigoldsbloom · 15/05/2026 14:41

Another vote for Dora - but calling her Isadora

HugoThatway · 15/05/2026 14:46

Coulddowithanap · 15/05/2026 14:21

I don't know how to pronounce them

Cassiopeia - Cassie o-PEE-uh
Kassiopi - Cassie-O-pee
Astoria - Uh-STOR-y-a
Doralis - Do-RA-lis

beeble347 · 15/05/2026 14:50

If you want honest opinions, none are tot taste and I do usually like flowery, unusual names. My DS' name is not English (from my husband's heritage) and people do struggle with pronunciation even though it's basically phonetic so I'd just caution you about that!

If you love Greek names, can I suggest:

Alethea
Theia
Daphne (love! Though I get your DH thinks of Scooby Doo)
Ariadne
Alexandria
Xanthe

Eleos · 15/05/2026 14:50

mexs · 14/05/2026 14:21

I love Daphne but DP says it's Scooby doo! DP and I both studied Ancient Greece although we're not Greek ourselves!

In that case, there are so many more beautiful ancient Greek girls names.

Astoria as in the NY Queens suburb, whilst having a very heavy Greek diaspora ( going with your theme) cannot possibly be taken seriously as a girl's name.

Jasminealive · 15/05/2026 14:52

The Astoria was a famous music venue in London. Closed now. That’s all I think of.

a quick google shows me a LOT of hotels and music venues called Astoria.

Doralis sounds like a pill for erectile problems, sorry!^^

TomatoSandwiches · 15/05/2026 14:52

Kasserine is nice imo

Too much like Passerine.

Doralis

absolutebollocks · 15/05/2026 15:00

They’re all a bit odd. Do you really want to use Cassie if you already have a Cassia in the family?

In a similar vein:

Isadora
Cleo
Saskia
Sasha

roshi42 · 15/05/2026 15:01

Astoria is also a flower isn’t it? I quite like it. And going with nicknames, I like Asta / Aster the best - super cool. You’ll likely end up using the nickname the most with those kind of long names, so would probably go with the day to day name you like best.

BuffaloCauliflower · 15/05/2026 15:01

Cassiopeia. My sister has a friend called this (aged around 30) it’s lovely and I like Cassie too, I’m with you on nice nicknames needing a long time. Sure some people won’t have come across it before, that’s fine everyone hasn’t heard every name.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 15/05/2026 15:11

They’re all awful.

It's a surname with -ia added. The flower is aster.

abracadabra1980 · 15/05/2026 15:31

None-sorry, OP

Tryagain26 · 15/05/2026 15:37

My favourite is Cassie but with the full name Cassandra. I don't think it's any more old fashioned than Cassiopeia.

Iocanepowder · 15/05/2026 15:39

Really sorry op, i really don’t like any of them. I’ve been to Kassiopi in Corfu.
