For context, we live in the Midwest (US).

Below is what we’ve narrowed it down to so far, but open to suggestions. We’re going for a less common name.

Callen, Remington (Remy), Summit, Dresden

Callen

youalright · 12/05/2026 21:43

I like callen. I thought remy was a girls name, summit is awful. Dresden im not sure i do kind of like it

mellongoose · 12/05/2026 21:44

Sorry. None of those appeal to. You did ask.

FluffOffFFS · 12/05/2026 21:44

Dresden was razed to the ground by the Allies at the end of WW2. I really wouldn't.

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/05/2026 21:46

Summit? Or Dresden? Please don’t.

Whyjustwhy83 · 12/05/2026 21:47

Callen it s the only one I like, summit and Dresden aren't names and Remy makes me think of a rat.

FluffMagnet · 12/05/2026 21:48

Definitely not Dresden, unless you want to go with Coventry as a middle name ...

Callum?

sugarapplelane · 12/05/2026 21:49

Dresden??? Really? Come on - I’m sure you can do better than that.
Actually I think you could do better on every name on your list.
There are so many gorgeous boys names out there, proper boys names, not try hard, made up boys names.
God awful! You did ask!

Callen, Remington (Remy), Summit, Dresden

I've never heard of Callen. Would people know how to spell it? I would have thought it would be Callan.
Remington is a typewriter.
Summit sounds like a meeting of politicians.
Dresden is a German city that was very heavily bombed in WW2, leading to huge fires and the death of thousands of civilians.

JMSA · 12/05/2026 21:55

All absolutely awful with the exception of Callan. Sorry!

tarheelbaby · 12/05/2026 21:56

(As you can see, I'm from back East and a southerner)

Callen - OK. Family name?
Remington: Remy - to rhyme with Lemmy? Rem is a better diminuative; Rémy is the rat in Ratatouille (Remington ... middle name Steel ... hahaha)
Summit - ok but nn Sum or Summy or It? (Summit rhymes with dammit ...)

All of these sound fine. What about Trig or Piper? or Taylor?

Dresden - for me this is connected with shepherdess = beautiful, heirloom china figurine. But for many others this will be a German city flattened in WWII.

MegaMewtwo · 12/05/2026 22:03

Summit up with you OP?
Dresden is awful. Known for being bombed.
Callen just sounds like Alan with a C at the start. Will surely get called Callum.

Remington - Steele - Remy isn't too bad.

StopFeckingSnoring · 12/05/2026 22:17

Callen is the only ok one. Others are all bad, but obviously cultural differences for most of us.

Mumofgirls2017 · 12/05/2026 22:20

Blimey those are out there! Remington is the best and I like the nn Remy. Suggestions

fletcher
callum
Deacon
emerson
Baxter
Huxley
loxley
kerrigan
callaghan
henley
beckett

crawlingovertheline · 12/05/2026 22:23

Summut wrong with them all! Are you aware of what happened to Dresden in the war?

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 12/05/2026 22:24

Dresden Summit? Sounds like an artificial ski slope? Where do these names come from? Do poor kids actually have them? I do know two Callans. One a South African girl and one an English boy. It’s interchangeable.

RegalDiamondMonster · 12/05/2026 22:32

Callan is the best, spelt Callan not Callen.
Remington for a given name is clunky. Remy is fine though.
Summit isn't the best nature name, if it's a mountain theme you are going for maybe Everest? Tenzing or Edmund? Tarn (like a mountain stream?) Rowan (another name for a mountain ash tree)?
Dresden- I realise you aren't in the UK and might not have the same associations but most people here would think of the bombings.

AgentPidge · 12/05/2026 22:49

Awful. Callan and Remy are marginally less awful than the rest but why would you pick names that aren't actually names? I'm probably not the demographic you need to ask though (not American, likes biblical and classical names like Sebastian, Gideon and Joel).

ForPearlViper · 12/05/2026 22:51

If this isn't a spoof, I can't help wondering if you understand that this a largely British site. I've seen enough random US reality TV to have seen many names of this sort but they seem strange and, dare I say, rather hilarious to many of us in the UK, even those trying to be kind. I think you'd be best asking on a more locally biased site.

StripedVase · 12/05/2026 22:57

I really like Remy - common male name in France. Not Remington, no need for the fussiness unless it's a family name and means something to you! Callen is nice though I agree Callan works better. The less said about Summit and Dresden the better imo... Dresden is a wartime tragedy or a china shepherdess. Summit is mountaintop or the way I say 'something' if i forget to enunciate. Congratulations on your baby!

Idontlikedogsandyesidostillhaveaheart · 12/05/2026 23:02

Reed , Sollen , Toben , and I love Hendrix

MrsMoastyToasty · 12/05/2026 23:07

Callen is the only one I like. I have a relative with that name. It's scots/Irish.

StrictlyCoffee · 12/05/2026 23:15

Callen largely because the other three are absolutely bloody dreadful

Summit and Dresden aren’t people’s names for goodness sake

Nightmanagerfan · 12/05/2026 23:20

All absolutely dreadful, even for a dog. Back to the drawing board.

csg376 · 12/05/2026 23:21

Isn’t Remington a gun?

Callan or Remy are good. What about Cassian?
