What to do people think?

I came up with it and DH now pounced on it and loves it (but he has been reading lots of Jeeves and Wooster books over the holiday).

Is it too poncey?
I like Clem (mie) for short but concerned sounds too much like phlegm.

TIA

Very nice. Both names go together very well.

Clementine1 · 21/06/2008 07:51

lovely name

Anna8888 · 21/06/2008 07:52

Lovely. Clementine is a gorgeous name. Mary a very good fit for a second name.

Guadalupe · 21/06/2008 07:55

I like it, they go together nicely

kittywise · 21/06/2008 07:55

It is a sweet name but it does sound ever so poncey, really, really does.

But if you like it you won't mind!

Tommy · 21/06/2008 08:06

beautiful

If you were concerned about the "orange" associations, I knew someone called Clemency, which is rather lovely too IMO

mummypud · 21/06/2008 10:19

love it . lots

Anglepoise · 21/06/2008 10:27

Like it as long as you have a short surname (just tried it with ours - three syllables - and it's too much of a mouthful!). Don't think it's poncey

BlueBumedFly · 21/06/2008 10:37

I have a Clementine!! Her full name is Clementine Mae.

Surprisingly few people call her Clementeeen as is the small orange and very few people actually sing (oh my darlin, oh my darlin..) only people over 75 I find.

We put Mae in as we thought with a 3 syllable first name the second name needed to be one but I do like Mary too, it is lovely. We also thought of Clementine Rose but Mae won in the end.

She gets called Clem, Clemmie, Clementine and Clembelina Ballerina as she used to walk on tippie toes.

Love it!!!

Pollyanna · 21/06/2008 10:41

It sounds lovely, but it's not a name I would use. It does sound very poncey. But if you like it then go with it.

kittywise · 22/06/2008 14:39

or satsuma joy

or mandarin molly

I do like the idea of the name but I still think it's too über poncey for words.

dizzydixies · 22/06/2008 17:36

I love it too - dh not budging, will have to work on him a bit more

Botbot · 22/06/2008 21:12

Clementine is a good'un. It's on my list for if we have another dd.

nooka · 22/06/2008 21:18

My middle names are Clemency Mary As I have a long first name too it is a bit of a mouthful!

buzzcocks · 22/06/2008 21:29

NOOKA can I ask? why, Clemency?

poshtottie · 22/06/2008 21:33

Clemency is a real name

Tinker · 22/06/2008 21:48

I think of Typhoid Mary.

Both names lovely but Clementine is also thing hence the leap (in my mind)

buzzcocks · 22/06/2008 22:02

I know Clemency is a real name, but I often wonder why people have their names.

nooka · 23/06/2008 14:03

Ah buzzcocks, that's a long story! My father is a methodical man, and I am the youngest of four (and my mother also had three unsuccessful pregnancies), so quite a lot of name choosing went on. This is how they did it: they got the Oxford English book of Christian names. They each crossed out all the names they really didn't like. Then they individually wrote a list of all the remaining names they did like. Then they swopped their lists, and crossed out the names they didn't like. Then they had a shortlist of names and chose from that. We still have the book with all the crossings on it, and I once found my short list (about four choices, for each boy or girl, all including middle names) but sadly I lost it. I seem to recall Carola being another girl option, and Cosmo on the boy list.

buzzcocks · 23/06/2008 20:13

Nooka, what a great way of choosing a name.
Whilst I was given the hippiest of names, which is not fun when you are the shyiest of teens.

alittleteapot · 23/06/2008 20:27

Lovely. Agree a one syllable second name might flow better though.

lilyloo · 23/06/2008 20:30

Like Clemmie

melpomene · 23/06/2008 20:33

I don't like the combination; it makes me think of 'Bloody Mary'.
