I'd think you liked the magazine but couldn't read/spell.

KittyFanesParasol · 05/05/2026 21:09

Well, I dislike Marnie - for some reason sounds very whiney.

Thing is IMHO, they don't flow together at all. The syllables clash and bump into each other.

For want of a better description.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 05/05/2026 21:09

Is this first and middle names or a first name of two parts?

ladygindiva · 05/05/2026 21:55

I like it

Toothpastestain · 05/05/2026 21:56

Sounds like sarnie

Giraffehaver · 05/05/2026 22:02

Well I don't mind it. Not my favourite names but certainly not worthy of the scorn on here

Elizabeta · 05/05/2026 22:03

I like Marie-Claire (and spelling variants!).

Like PP I’m not keen on Marnie though. And having it so similar to a very well known name just sounds a little odd.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 05/05/2026 22:04

Such a whiny sounding name

bigsoftcocks · 05/05/2026 22:04

Marnie is awful.

SwedishEdith · 05/05/2026 22:19

People will think you meant Marie-Claire.

namingagirl · 06/05/2026 01:20

Claire is middle name

Marnie is a name whose appeal I cannot understand.

Marie Claire is infinitely nicer.

Smileandtheworldsmileswithyou · 06/05/2026 02:05

I don't like it at all.

ArtemisNutella · 06/05/2026 02:18

I have no love at all for the name Marnie. I just see Marie, but with a mistaken extra N thrown in - sorry!

Claire is lovely as a first or middle name.

BeBesideTheSea · 06/05/2026 02:32

I think Marnie is a lovely name. It feels gentle, and timeless.

asdbaybeeee · 06/05/2026 03:32

I think Marnie is cute. Clare is very 80’s are you using it for sentimental reasons?

MaySheWillStay · 06/05/2026 03:46

Marnie is the name of the lead female character in an Alfred Hitchcock film.
She killed a man when she was young: now adult she’s a thief.

I’m sure I wouldn’t want to name a child after that character.

In the film Marnie is short for Margaret.

My sister’s 6y old is called Marnie.

RoseField1 · 06/05/2026 06:10

Marnie is a weird name, not pretty, not strong, not striking. It makes me think of the character from Girls (awful) and lily allen (also awful)

TheClangyClunk · 06/05/2026 06:13

I like Marnie but I only like Claire if pronounced with a rhotic accent otherwise it’s a bit bleurgh.

It's also the ghost girl in "When Marnie was there", quite a haunting story (literally). Her name was Marian.

I don't know what people are on about. Marnie is a perfectly nice name what is 'whiny' about it FGS? I also love Claire although sheep like people will automatically say 'dated' as it was so popular in the 60s, 70s and 80s. But so what if it was? It's a lovely name. I prefer it to the currently popular version 'Clara'. Anyway it's only a middle.

The whole name flows fine, and again Claire is a middle name so you won't often be saying the two names together, therefore it won't be mixed up with Marie-Claire. Obviously. Jeez.

NamingNoNames · 06/05/2026 09:53

Marnie is ok and doesn't sound whiny. Middle names aren't used much anyway but together it does look like Marie Claire.
Clare is fine but I don't like Clara.

Pemba · 06/05/2026 10:08

A thought, why not spell it Clare instead of Claire? Might stop the 'Marie-Claire' moaners.

I actually always preferred the 'Clare' spelling which is slightly more unusual. Marnie Clare works.

NamingNoNames · 06/05/2026 10:13

@Pemba , it will still look like Marie Claire.
I prefer the Clare spelling.
