Norma - watch how it sounds with the surname. Norma L, Norma S, or Norma N...
Noora - I'd think Noura
Imelda - Marcos, Staunton
Clothilde - Clot
Aimee - Amy or Emmay?

DreamyPenn · 30/04/2026 18:11

I like Clotilde and Amy from your list, but spelled this way, but I still prefer Clothilde and Aimee to other 3.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/04/2026 18:18

Are you looking for a French name?

youalright · 30/04/2026 20:01

I like Aimee and the spelling. Don't like the others especially clothilde as it will get shortened to cloth

Firebird83 · 30/04/2026 20:03

I like Noora / Noura but not the others

mathanxiety · 30/04/2026 20:11

I love Imelda and like Noora from your list.

Not keen on the rest at all. Norma is dire.

Mumofgirls2017 · 30/04/2026 21:49

I like Nora? Imelda is ok but a bit clunky

OopsieeDaisy · 30/04/2026 23:08

Aimee is lovely, I’m not keen on the others but Nora is ok.

Heidi2018 · 30/04/2026 23:34

Norma / Noora: hate Norma, LOVE Noora
Imelda: not bad, i know one who isn't the nicest that taints my opinion
Clothilde: have no idea how to pronounce this, I've never heard or seen it before.
Aimee: love and love this spelling!

Go for what you like. Opinions will keep tainting your view, but once the child is here people tend to just accept names and not overthink them!

RomeWasVisitedInADay · 01/05/2026 10:46

Norma - absolutely dreadful but perhaps it's the latest dowdy old lady name to come back into fashion?!

Noora - Like Laura with a N? I really like this despite only being 1 letter away from Norma!

Imelda - Really lovely, but there is the Marcos thing.

Clothilde - I think this is pronounced Cloh-TILD, it sounds quite nice but looks ugly written down, how about Clodagh, Claudette, Chloe, Clara?

Aimee - Perfectly fine, but very boring for anyone who was at school in England in the 90's when there were thousands of them! This spelling makes it less boring than 'Amy'.

I always think this, as much as I love giving my opinions which I have no idea how helpful they are, I think why would anyone do this to themselves?! People have such wildly different experiences of names - miserable aunt, school bully, favourite grandma, favourite movie star, evil character from a book, stripper, Irish, Welsh, Scottish, Cornish, traditionalists, country music fans, contemporary fans, nature lovers, star lovers, London dwelling, France dwelling, International school etc etc etc.

I think unless it's particularly unusual, or perhaps if you are choosing a name not of your own culture, or is the name of someone very famous like Donald or Taylor or something, opinions are so madly varied I can't believe it's much help and must just ruin some peoples love of a name.

It is fun though, and I love seeing all the latest trends and ideas! Particularly liked the Cornish thread recently.

DramaAlpaca · 01/05/2026 11:18

I have a soft spot for Imelda, it's vintage and strong.

I don't like the Aimee spelling at all; it's fussy. Love Amy, though.

Norma is dreadful, it has no redeeming qualities at all.

Noora not so sure, but the Arabic Noor is nice.

Clothilde automatically makes me think of the old insult 'cloth ears' so that would be a No.

FraterculaArctica · 01/05/2026 11:29

Not keen on any tbh, but would Anoushka work for you if you're keen on a French vibe?

AgnesMcDoo · 01/05/2026 11:36

Amy nicer that Aimee but it’s ok

i don’t like the other at all

It's not French.

FraterculaArctica · 01/05/2026 11:45

You are right, sorry. I was thinking of Anouk.

LoudPlumDog · 01/05/2026 13:41

Love Aimee

HugoThatway · 01/05/2026 13:58

@FraterculaArctica , no need to apologise but thanks . The ones I know are British-Asian. It's not much used so its popularity seems regional.

I like Norma, Clothilde and Amy.
Norma I prefer to Noora.

Xmasallergies · 02/05/2026 16:23

I like Nora and Imelda best. Norma just sounds a bit dull.
