Hannah + surname with H

I love the name Hannah, but didn't pick it for DD1 as my mum said 'you can't have hannah!!' as our surname also starts with an H.(wish hadn't said anything!) But now pregant again keep thinking how much I like it. What about surnames which start with the same letter/sound as first name, is it ok, or a bit cruel??
Thanks

moses Martin. just thought I'd throw that one in.

CrushWithEyeliner · 20/06/2008 18:01

hanah hallam - what a dreadful name

greenelizabeth · 20/06/2008 18:02

Kirsty Cooper works well I think. Better than Moses Martin.

Hannah Halliwell for example, does not. Can you give us a clue to the sur name OP?

Funny you should mention this Jaynee. My DP and our two DSs' surname begins with H, in fact it is one of the names which has appeared on this thread, and someone once made a joke about calling our baby Horace and MIL launched straight into "ooh the dreaded HH" (voice identical to Marjorie the Fat Fighter lady on Little Britain, just to set the scene). This set me right on edge as if we have DS3 at some point in future we had already chatted about an H name.. we were slightly unsure in case it sounded twee but my mind is made up to go for it now the MIL has expressed her distaste ha ha. The first name is He surname Ha so maybe not so bad?

Jaynee · 20/06/2008 21:12

Thanks guys, even more confused now though, it would be two ha,ha sounds, perhaps not such a good idea!

Two of the teachers at my school (married couple) were called Tim and Tara Taylor. They were as sweet as their names sounded!

mummypud · 21/06/2008 10:18

we too are considering hannah with our last nmae that starts with h, we also like heidi! even worse the middle name will be rose , so hrh? are we being completly stupid? its just they are teh only 2 names we both really like

Anglepoise · 21/06/2008 10:30

I initially thought ooh no, but having given it a few hours to mull over I'm not sure how much you would really notice it. Though I love the name Stella but can't have it because my surname now starts with an ST.

mummypud I really don't think it matters, though tbh I've never really understood this obsession with initials. At the very worst, people will be able to buy her comedy things with her initials on (like ships ).

mummypud · 21/06/2008 10:42

lmao , that ticlked both me and dh anglepoise , hadnt thought of the comedy gift option... thats xcatly what he says initials dont matter

Raahh · 21/06/2008 10:53

when i was having dd i really like Lydia, although we had settled on a name, but our surname is very unusual and begins La so we decided it sounded too much like a stripper!!

henrys7thwife · 22/06/2008 18:03

Have known a Hannah Huffman, never thought about it being odd before.

allgonebellyup · 22/06/2008 18:06

hey you could have rhyming names too.

my dcs teacher is called Gail Dale

micci25 · 22/06/2008 18:11

what about adding a middle name to break it up? like hannah jane harriet?

BexieID · 25/06/2008 14:08

DPs surname begins with a H, so we avoided any H names. Hannah Henson doesn't sound as bad as Henry Henson, so will probably add Hannah to my list whenever we have another child!

BexieID · 25/06/2008 14:10

I worked with a lady called Gerry Berry!

SquiffyHock · 25/06/2008 14:14

I love alliteration and wanted it for DD but didn't have many options.
Anglepoise - could you go for Estella for formality and then shorten it?

PuppyMonkey · 25/06/2008 14:18

PMSL at illiterative

round here, if you had say Hannah Hudson... she would be called Anna Udson.

That would be my main worry...

BexieID · 25/06/2008 20:47

I just remembered I work with a Hannah whose surname begins with a H.

Olihan · 25/06/2008 20:52

I really wanted Toby for ds2 but our surname also stats with a 'T O' sound and it just seemed a bt much.

I'd say as it's Ha Ha it's probably not a good idea.

(Although it's a lovely name - I have one!)

BexieID · 25/06/2008 20:57

Ha Ha is what my brother used to call me as he couldn't say Rebecca.
