Thoughts on Madelyn or Carlotta for a sister to Camilla

Francescarae · Yesterday 11:14

We are trying to have baby number 2 so I’m thinking of names, we have decided on our boys name.

we have a daughter called Camilla Marie
we call her “Millie” for short or sometimes “Millie Marie”

I have always loved longer traditional full names with cute ie nicknames

we have two choices

Madelyn Mae-nickname Maddie /Maddie Mae
Carlotta Grace- nickname Lottie /Lottie Grace

boys name already decided:

Oliver James - Nickname Ollie

let me know your thoughts x

Madelyn feels like a very American spelling of Madel(e)ine. Mae/May and Grace are very overused as middle names. I love Carlotta. It would be lovely paired with a different middle name.

WhimsyWhim · Yesterday 14:20

What do you think of Antonia with the NN Annie, Julianna with the NN Annie, Alexandra with the NN Allie, or Scarlett with the NN Lettie? These seem very similar to what you want.

Those are all stretches, @WhimsyWhim .

Do you like Lucia to keep the Italian feel OP?

Camilla and Lucia could be Millie and Lucy, which are both sweet but neither too similar nor too saccharine.

I don't think you really need two Milly Marie/Maddy Mae type names, which are essentially hyphenated names, do you?

Anewuser · Yesterday 15:15

I also don’t understand why you’d choose a name then call the child by the nickname.

I work in a school and when SATs come round, a lot of the children are surprised to discover they even have a different name to the one they are called.

I don’t like Madelyn because it looks like it should sound Made-alyn.

MississippiCroc · Yesterday 15:20

Not Mae or Grace, so overdone, overused, boring. Every girl has these as a middle name.

You can’t have a Millie Marie and a Maddie Mae, come on. It’s like you’re naming dolls.

Another vote for spelling Madeleine properly - Madelyn is horrible

Yes, and it actually degrades the vibe of Camilla, which is formal and traditional and correct spelling used.

While I can cope with Millie Marie as an affectionate version, I would say the same about adding a second double banger name: they would cast an unflattering light on each other. It's exactly a Holly Hobby and Raggedy Ann (or dolly) vibe.

Madeline - but spelt like this!

Charlotte is nicer than Carlotta

ImthatBoleyngirl · Yesterday 15:58

I knew a girl called Charlotta, Charlie for short. She was so lovely, which made the name even nicer.

landlordhell · Yesterday 16:00

Love all the full names. The nicknames demote them to very ordinary in my opinion.

ginasevern · Yesterday 16:39

Prefer Madelyn. Don't like Carlotta very much.

Firetreev · Yesterday 16:51

Madeleine is lovely, but spell it properly. Madelyn is ridiculous and will reflect poorly on you throughout her life. Carlotta is nice, but I prefer Madeleine. Mae as a middle name is so overdone and uninspired, but if you like it it's pretty inoffensive.

Camilla Marie is sweet.
For a sister, I prefer Madeleine to Carlotta.
Madeleine Carla
Charlotta Mary

Other names for thought...
Annabel Claire
Alanna Charlotte

ElixirOfLife · Yesterday 17:47

I like Carlotta.

Also how about Marianne or Charlotte?
Jessica
Melissa
Clementine

Firebird83 · Yesterday 19:47

I don’t think Camilla and Carlotta are too similar, especially if they go by Millie and Lottie. I much prefer Carlotta to Madelyn.

I don’t understand why you pick a name and then call your child a shorter/different version of the name. Using a shorter/different version of a name isn’t a nickname. A nickname is a name that happens organically. Just choose the name you intend to use for your child.

This. Nicknames are organic. Stop picking full names for the short version.

MovedlikeHarlowinMonteCarlo · Yesterday 19:52

Madeleine is nice but I don't like your spelling.

HarryVanderspeigle · Yesterday 20:05

Charlotte just sounds like a vampire to me. I presume it sounds nicer in an Italian accent, but just can't escape the blood sucking association.

mathanxiety · Yesterday 22:13

Carlotta has a vibe of a trashy stage name of the 1930s.

I'd choose Madelyn Mae.

mathanxiety · Yesterday 22:15

I agree with posters suggesting Madeline or Madeleine as the spelling - Madelyn isn't great imo.

We like horses so Carlotta felt fitting due to Enid blyton

I'd say Clarissa would be much more Enid Blyton horsey than Carlotta.

LivingTheDreamish · Yesterday 22:22

I love Camilla and Carlotta together.

Gillyyy · Today 07:41

I agree that Carlotta is too similar to Camilla, and Millie and Maddie are too similar.

Camilla & Daphne
Camilla & Ophelia (Millie & Fifi)
Camilla & Beatrice (Millie & Bea)
Camilla & Zara
Camilla & Felicity (Millie & Fliss)
Camilla & Saskia

I feel like these fit with your other names!
