I think a lot of “old lady names “ are actually becoming rather popular
heard of newborn baby girls over the last year or two that have been called
Agnes
Enid
Dorothy
Jean
June
Rita
Pearl
Maud
Betty

I suspect in the next decade names many people rightly or wrongly consider dated / boring now will be on the up
Julie
Deborah
Rebecca
Claire
Joanne
Catherine
Susan
Nicola
Paula
Sarah
Susan
Victoria
Lisa

if for no other reason than being uncommon is preferable for some above anything else
Not so sure about names such as Sharon or Tracey but you never know!

Barbara still used in Poland. Geraldine is pretty imo, could see that coming back.

Love all those apart from Enid and Maud.

It’s a huge shame that the name Karen has been used for the ridiculous American slang term.

I think Karen absolutely WILL come back. Those daft memes and horrible connotations will long be forgotten. It's an attractive name, it's just having an unfashionable moment. Thirty years ago this thread would have been answered with names like 'Fred, Stan, Elsie, Nancy etc'. The vintage naming trend rule is generally 'not in living memory'. So in 30 years time, Karen could well be back in fashion.

Also Hilda and Edna are on their way back, along with Elsie, Nancy (who’d have thought it?), Martha , Jean and Jane.
i think it will be a while before Janice, Jeanette and Lynn make their way back.

I'm shocked there are some children with the name Agnes.
It's the name of an older relative of mine. She has always disliked her name & also the nickname Aggie. She was named after an Aunt. The rest of us felt sorry for her and were also relieved, we didnt have that name.

I know 3 girls under 10 called Agnes, 2 are under 5. Also several Peggy's and an Ethel.

I met a young Doris and Agnes in the recent past. I would have thought Agnes was quite popular tbh.

I think nearly all names have the potential to come back don't they? Something might sound downright ugly right now, but that doesn't mean it will feel that way to a future generation.
Fanny might be the exception.

That list includes two of my aunties, my Nana and one of my best friends! Not that I disagree with your suggestions though.

Exactly what I came here to say. Unfortunately, Fanny has had her day..:

I don't think so.

Gen Z don't tend to use slang like 'fanny' and I don't think Gen Alpha will.

What WILL become dated are the silly posts I've seen on here claiming that Fanny was always seen the way it is now just because Fanny Hill was written, and the ones claiming Enid Blyton called a character Fanny as a deliberate double entendre.

HelenaWaiting · Yesterday 21:28

I reckon Elaine. There were five in my primary school class, but it lost popularity really quickly and has yet to make a comeback.

There are lots of Agnes around. I also teach a Dorcas and a Sharon. The French pronunciation of Agnes (Ann-yess) is lovely.

Margaret could be popular to some Crown fans.

The less you think they will come back, the more likely they will.

Euphemia was a name used in my Dad's family a few generations ago. Short forms were Effie or Phemie. Those have been used since, but I can't see the long name coming back.

Has Moaning Myrtle killed that name off?

My great-great-aunt was that! My grandmother was fond of her so it's always had nice associations for me.

But I agree Euphemia itself is a different matter.

Thelma hasn't appeared here yet, does that mean it has disappeared forever? Lavinia and Virginia also AWOL. Some florals in - Poppy and Daisy etc, others out e.g. Marguerite and Pansy.
