Greek Twin Names!

My husband and I are having twins in July!! We’ve already decided on our sons name, Christos, as it’s my FIL’s name:) I’ve always loved it and think there are some really cute nicknames for it (Stos). We’re seriously struggling with our daughter though. Nothing seems to fit with his name. I don’t want anything TOO Greek. We were thinking of Alexia but I’m just not fully 100% sure! Our last name is Katsaros!

If you live in the UK don’t go for Alexia! If you live in Greece maybe it’s different though

StationJack · 19/04/2026 11:13

Look up Alexia.

Will they be brought up in the UK and are both parents of Greek heritage?

Christina nn Kitty.

Depends how quirky you want to go:

Chloe, Penelope, Selene, Phoebe, Iris, Daphne, Thalia

or

Astraea, Artemis, Calliope, Xanthe, Clio

I think Clio (one of the Muses) and Chloe (meaning green shoots) would go well with Christos for obvious reasons but there's lots of lovely Greek girls names with nice meanings.

Hera
Hero (good enough for Shakespeare)
Melissa
Persephone (Persy or Sephy)

You could call her Sophia, or just Sophie. Athena is nice, or Penelope (Penny or Nell). I once knew someone called Caliope who was always called Poppy - for a long time, I thought it was her actual name.

Eleni, Aria, Thalia?

AnnaQuayRules · 19/04/2026 11:30

Athena?

Phineyj · 19/04/2026 13:48

Lyra? Goes with your surname. Not uncommon in the UK (thank you Ed Sheeran).

TinyMouseTheatre · 19/04/2026 20:58

Alexia is lovely but if you’re in the UK it’s far too close to Alexa. For me, it would rule it out. Athena does sound lovely with your last name and with your DS’ name Smile

Ariadne

Christos is... Christ (Messiah in Hebrew). Hard to compete with that!

I spent my first year of university in a shared flat with these three lovely ladies. Honestly, I learned so much about the culture!

If you look at the data then yes it tracks the books and TV releases but there is also a celebrity boost not attributable to Pullman (Ed Sheeran not being the only celebrity that liked it, but the more famous).

Actually that's a good idea for OP to look at National Statistics name analysis if she wants something that will work in the UK but is not too unusual.
