MarkStretch · 19/06/2008 20:24

Stevie is my favourite girls name ever.

I wasn't allowed to use it for dd

Enid · 19/06/2008 20:24

my niece is called Dave

Hulababy · 19/06/2008 20:25

I personally like proper girl's names for girls. I go in for girly girl names

Enid · 19/06/2008 20:26

cheesesarnie · 19/06/2008 20:31

my ds middle name in robin and ive been told off for giving him a girls name!

wrinklytum · 19/06/2008 20:32

I have a unisex name,it has been mentioned on this thread.I do like it but get tired of people saying "Oh I thought that was a boys name??".

dizzydixies · 19/06/2008 20:37

wrinklytum sorry to pester you BUT would you have preferred it to have been a mn?

LOL Alan

James, Andy and Robin are all becoming popular girls names these days - esp in the US.

Sacha is usually used for girls in this country but is actually a Russian boys name short for Alexander.

wrinklytum · 19/06/2008 21:00

Dizzy I'm sorry you've lost me!!!

I LOVE my name,I think it is pretty and actually more feminine than masculine, but it gets very wearing as it is joked about in the context of a famous guy having the name.I have met other people with my name - 2 boys and 1 girl

beansontoast · 19/06/2008 21:02

i know someone with daughters called
georgie,alex,charlie and frankie...another true story!

dizzydixies · 19/06/2008 21:05

wrinkly sorry, will try to explain better

we already have two dd's
Isabella known as Ella and
Alexandra known as Lexie

dh has now announced he likes Dylan for a girl, which was what I really pushed for when we had dd2 but am wondering can I use it after two girly names - esp as people are already annoying me by constantly asking if we were trying for a boy iyswim?

a compromise would be to give her a more 'girly' first name and Dylan as her second name but use it everyday instead of a shortened version of a fn

god I overthink things

dizzydixies · 19/06/2008 21:06

beansontoast my dad always says they should've called me Georgina so they could shorten it to Georgie as I never suited my obber girly double barralled poncy name that my mother gave me

I know 2 girls called Robyn, but I also went to school with a boy called Tracy.

redrobin · 19/06/2008 21:10

i have a Robin - i loved the Chalet Girls stories and named her for the Robin in them! if people don't see her (ie when i phone for doctor's appointment) its automatically assumed that she is a boy...but she is obviously a girl face to face! i've had some negative comments from old grannies, but who cares. Her small sister has just started calling her Bobby, i didn't really like it until i remembered the Railway Children. but really if you like it...who cares?

Sidge · 19/06/2008 21:13

I'm not keen on ambiguous names.

I called a patient in once called Stacey and was NOT expecting a bloke to walk in!

I know a Toni (not short for anything, just Toni) which she hates, and also a Sidney who is female.

I think I'm just a bit old fashioned, I like boys to have boyish names and girls to have girly names. No confusion then!

wrinklytum · 19/06/2008 21:16

Dizzy, if you like it use it

I have to second what redrobin has just said about stuff like letters/appointments.I have often had mail addressed to Mr Wrinklytum as opposed to Miss Wrinklytum

Sunshinemummy · 19/06/2008 21:18

I think Dylan for a girl is lovely.

I know a Thomasina (she's known as Totty!) and a Billie. Also Stella McCartney has a daughter called Bailey which is ambiguous but lovely imo.
