Alejandra, wdyt
i pronounce it aley-han-drah or ale-han-dra
...
I've always loved Spanish names and culture, and this name is particularly good in my opinion so far! Elegant, passionate yet recognisable
Thoughts Not asking if you would name a kid that, just ur opinion on the name and if you know anyone with that name

reminds me of the gaga song

no from me

familyissues12345 · 04/04/2026 07:50

I would probably assume it was pronounced

Al - an - dra

As in the J being silent. However, I would check before saying it as I haven’t got a clue!

Slightyamusedandsilly · 04/04/2026 07:50

Aleeandra. But others will pronounce it Al-JAN-dra.

Happytaytos · 04/04/2026 07:51

It'd be an interesting choice if not Spanish yourself. I don't mind it.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 04/04/2026 07:51

Pretty name but I think lots of English people would struggle with the J sound in the middle of a word. (It's not really an H.)

Flickitspinittwistitbopit · 04/04/2026 07:53

Pronounced al-eh-han-drah, IME, but unless you've any familial or geographical links to Spain it's a bit wanky to do this...

Also, by the number of people I've heard pronounce jalapeño, well, jalapeno 😂 I'd be very wary!

How is it pronounced? I would have given it an h sound but I wasn't sure.

I don't mind it but I think it's an odd choice if you don't have any Spanish connections.

Meridas · 04/04/2026 07:53

You and she will spend a lifetime spelling and pronouncing the name. Which seems odd if there's no Spanish heritage.

Figcherry · 04/04/2026 07:55

Aley-han-dra.

I like the name but think it may imply that you have Spanish/Mexican heritage which could lead to lots of questions from interested people.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 04/04/2026 07:57

A Spanish J is like the ch in loch (which is not a K sound, for those who dont know...).

RoseField1 · 04/04/2026 07:58

Your threads are strange

BoleynMemories13 · 04/04/2026 07:59

I would pronounce it how you want. I would automatically assume Spanish (or Spanish speaking) heritage and would find it an odd choice if you didn't to be honest.

hahabahbag · 04/04/2026 08:01

Unless you have Spanish heritage and/or live in Spain it seems odd. Alexandra is a lovely name with the conventional spelling

AgnesMcDoo · 04/04/2026 08:02

Ally-handra - with a roll of the r

user2848502016 · 04/04/2026 08:02

Alehandra
pretty if you’re Spanish but a bit weird if not, why not go for Alexandra?

Musicaltheatremum · 04/04/2026 08:05

I have a friend whose daughter is Alejandra. She's 31 now. The dad is Spanish origin but born in UK. Ale han dra is the way we pronounce it. She says she's had very few problems with it.

TheChicDreamer · 04/04/2026 08:06

I’d pronounce it Ale-handra because I speak Spanish. But I think a lot of people in this country won’t know that (and god knows the autocorrect on my phone certainly didn’t 😠) and you’ll end up having to explain and possibly have to field questions such as, ‘oo is she part Spanish’ etc and if you say, ‘er no I just like Spain’, you might be judged as a bit of a nob.

Alexandra is perfectly OK, IMO more beautiful because it’s slightly softer sounding.

Edited

Yup. Use Alexander if you're English not Spanish heritage

Bristolandlazy · 04/04/2026 08:10

I would have no clue how to pronounce it

EmpressaurusKitty · 04/04/2026 08:11

Are you the one who’s trying out names for book characters?

Tacohill · 04/04/2026 08:11

I like the name but unless you’re living in Spain/spanish speaking country, then people will just use the name Alexandra.

That might get frustrating for your DD.

MightyFlow · 04/04/2026 08:12

Alay-han-dra

CurlewKate · 04/04/2026 08:12

I don’t believe in making life more difficult for children than it needs to be. Unless you’re Spanish then no.

TubeScreamer · 04/04/2026 08:44

Your child will not thank you for this

LastHotel · 04/04/2026 08:47

It’s lovely name if you are Spanish. I would assume most people in the UK would know how to pronounce it, but perhaps that’s optimistic.
