How would you pronounce this?

Like "Lewis"

or the French way "Looee"

And do you like it for the name of my next darling boy of whom I am not yet pregnant of.

dinny · 18/06/2008 16:13

GreenGodess · 18/06/2008 16:27

If it is spelt the french way should be said the french way otherwise just spell it Lewis saves lots of confusion!

missblythe · 18/06/2008 16:41

French way. Tres chic.

savoycabbage · 18/06/2008 16:42

Louis Jordan, Louis Prima, Louis Armstrong - great name.

pagwatch · 18/06/2008 18:38

my gorgeous handsome totally lovely DS1 is Louis and he is 15 tomorrow .
we have a french surname too so it is really lovely ( thank god his french is good). He loved hearing people say his name in France - it sounds really yummy.

It is pronounced Louie though.
If you call your child Lewis then call them Lewis.

You will get dickheads calling him Lewis though. But we have never had anyone mess with it ( ie Lou) which is nice

bonnibaby · 18/06/2008 19:52

i love it but agree its Lou-ee not Lewis .
Lewis is lovely too but hate it spelt Louis !

Tinker · 18/06/2008 19:54

Love it and only the French way.

JulesJules · 18/06/2008 19:59

I love it. Of course it should be pronounced the French way, but I named my cat Louis after Louis Armstrong, and he (the jazz musician, not the cat) pronounced it (adopt gravelly tone)
"Lou-issss". The cat just said meow. So, either way is fine with me.

eenybeeny · 18/06/2008 20:15

I was planning on doing it the french way anyway. But DH said it makes him think of wankoid Louis Walsh although he also said he really loves the name! Louis Walsh isnt the first thing you think of is it? I think of Louis XVI.

Love it. Spell it the way you want it pronounced (preferably the French way). And no I don't think of Louis Walsh at all. More inclined to think of Louis XIV "The Sun King" or of a gorgeous, funny boy I used to know when I was a teenager or a beautiful musician called Louis who I once watched perform.

pointydog · 18/06/2008 20:49

I would pronounce it Louee.

Lewis is Lewis
