Will it be shortened to Theo, Teddy or Ted? Prefer it for a girl, ie Theodora or Theadora

stillwaiting · 17/06/2008 15:18

I really like it. I considered it for ds but was worried that it was becoming a girls name as there are loads of theas about. I think I was being a bit ridiculous though.

slinkiemalinki · 17/06/2008 15:20

Very popular. Know 3 Theos and not that many children overall!

nooka · 17/06/2008 15:20

Fab name. I don't know anyone who is usually called Theodore though - my brother is always Theo, and the small children I have come across are usually Theo too.

miamla · 17/06/2008 17:02

really? i don't know any other theos! not sure about nickname, knowing my family it'll be something like "Fred" (they go for nicknames that are nothing like the person's real name!)
i think we'd probably start off calling him Theo but I imagine he'd be a Ted when a bit older, who knows
well that's a good start imo, 3 like it so far!
thanks girls

I went out with a theo when I was at school.

He was a controlling, manipulative, possessive arse and the relationship ended when he hit me. So am afraid the name has only negative connotations for me.

I am totally with Lady Thompson, much prefer Theodora, the idea of having a little girl called Teddy almost makes me broody

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/06/2008 17:30

only if it's Theo, which is my favourite boys name !

LadyThompson · 17/06/2008 17:31

I'm 16 weeks and quite wanted a Theodora but is yet another of the names DP vetoed. He prefers Charlotte, the name of one of his exes. Well, suffice to say she ain't being called THAT...

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/06/2008 17:31

plus there is only 1 in ds's whole school

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/06/2008 17:31

Lottie is nice

Flllight · 17/06/2008 17:32

I know a 9yo and a baby...both are Theo's and are lovely
Nice parents too.

LadyThompson · 17/06/2008 17:33

Charlotte, Charlie, Lottie...all yucky imo and it's not happening

Flllight · 17/06/2008 17:36

I thought Thea was short for Althea?

Dorothy is very nice. We know a German woman named Dorothee, it's so pretty! (I think you pronounce the extra E as you would an A)

Albertine · 17/06/2008 19:41

We have a 3 month old Theodore. Reactions to his name have been mixed. My family really aren't keen (they think it's poncey) and pretty much everyone seems to shorten it to Theo without asking (we call him Ted or Teddy at home). I've also been absolutely amazed at the number of people who can't spell it! It's rising up the charts, if that bothers you, though still well outside the top 100.

I think it's a gorgeous old-fashioned classic with lots of great nickname options, and still relatively unusual.

benandoli · 17/06/2008 19:53

Theo is lovely

Lovely. I really liked it for a DS - but we only had girls. Great name!

beansprout · 18/06/2008 18:21

Ds2 is Theo, but just that, no long version.

bikerunski · 18/06/2008 22:09

Thea could be short for Anthea too, or Athena.

chandellina · 18/06/2008 22:14

love Theo.

4madboys · 18/06/2008 22:22

I have a Theodore, he is 8 and the only one is his school he gets called Theo, the 'o' man or Theodorable tho he doesnt like that nickname so much

i also really like Thalia for a girl
