what are people’s opinions on rhyming sibling names? Our 2nd is called Flora, now expecting our 3rd, we like the name Leonora also due to the shortening to Leo or Nora, not because it rhymes. Is this just odd??

Yes I wouldn't.
I think Flora and Nora would be weird.
If you want Leo what about Leonie, Leona.

ShetlandishMum · 09/03/2026 06:37

Too close I would say.

GoldenRosebee · 09/03/2026 06:37

I don't think it's weird, but if you want alternatives what about Leonore?

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 09/03/2026 08:29

No, rhyming names sound silly.

Sannabay · 09/03/2026 08:37

Yes its à bizarre idea op imo
My friend is called Selina after her grandma. Another family i know chose names with a similar origin. Eg Rita taken from Margarita to other names semantic 'Pure, white ' origins. X

No, too rhymey!

Flora could sound fine with..
Louisa
Eloise
Alannah

mumlong · 09/03/2026 09:13

It’s not odd. Flora and Leonora rhyme a bit, but they’re still different names, and the nicknames make them distinct.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/03/2026 09:18

Flora and Nora are awful together.

Jessbow · 09/03/2026 12:51

leonie is a bit dfferent but not too far removed, could be shortened to Leo which doesnt clash with Flora

SuperMarioToadPrincessPeach · 09/03/2026 13:16

You can’t have a Flora and a Nora. Agree Leonie works better.

Firebird83 · 09/03/2026 13:49

Not with Flora. What about Leona, Leola, Cleo, Eleanor?

Dee51121 · 09/03/2026 17:32

I have this same issue with names I really like rhyming with my own. I wouldn't be able to overlook the rhyming personally.

I think Leonie is a really cool name and sits nicely next to Flora.

Untalkative · 09/03/2026 17:33

No, it sounds like something from a limerick.

This!

Calliopespa · 09/03/2026 19:24

Flora and Nora - lovely for a pair of mice!

SpanielsAreNutty · 09/03/2026 19:26

Nobody cares, OP.

Giraffehaver · 09/03/2026 22:38

Sounds too twee

LivingTheDreamish · 10/03/2026 04:49

Flora and Nora is super cute for two kittens, not so much for two sisters.

Eenameenadeeka · 11/03/2026 04:00

I also think Leona might be better

paintedpanda · 11/03/2026 05:01

We have a 15yo Flora so when we were coming up with names for a sibling I found I loved the rhyming names (Nora, Leonore, Clara) but decided definitely not. I couldn’t imagine introducing our children “Flora and Nora”. I love Eden which is what we’d have named a girl but we had a boy!

wandawaves · 11/03/2026 05:07

Very odd. Don't do it.

samantha9 · 11/03/2026 07:21

I think it’s fine as Nora will be a nickname, so if you’re introducing them to people you can use full names. Also sibling names aren’t used a lot outside of the home, they’ll be in different classes etc. I know twins William and Matilda, known in their family as Billy and Tilly.

No to Flora and Nora (and I'd hate to be called Nora). Leonie is much prettier than Leonora.
