i am asking only because i dont know ANY scotts at all and ondered if there was some sort of bad reason this is so...or that its just died out! This baby will be our only child born in scotland, so i thought scott was quite fitting and a good 'boy/bloke' name. What do you think?

hehe, seeing as i am petrified of flying i doubt australia will ever be on the cards. The baby might though, when he grows up, at least he will settle in!

My brother is a Scott, it was my Da's middle name and he was named after my Dad, so he is Robert Scott, known as Scott.
I think it's nice, sounds better in the scots accent than English though.

expatinscotland · 17/06/2008 14:20

I think if you are not Scottish, Struan sounds different and as a result some may not like it.

When DH and folks round here (Argyll) it, it sounds lovely and rolls off their tongues.

Our two daughters have Gaelic names, so it ties in with theirs.

VictorianSqualor · 17/06/2008 14:22

I much prefer my name in a Scots accent too, it's beautiful said by a Scot, but not by English(Lorraine, just spelled differently).

Alderney · 17/06/2008 14:28

Always one of my favourite names...

expatinscotland · 17/06/2008 14:28

Both our girls' name sound much, much lovelier said with a Scottish or Irish accent.

chatee · 17/06/2008 14:32

fab name but then i'm biasedand my ds is quite a nice little chap too

ps the name can't be shortened but it can be added to if you are not careful(Scottie)

chatee · 17/06/2008 14:34

oops hadn't finished

ds gets quite annoyed when ever anyone tries to call him scottie

know a Bruce in ds's class too

LuLuBai · 17/06/2008 14:39

Our cat has the same name as my first boyfriend. He came with the name as he is a rescue cat but my ex is still vain enough to believe I named my family pet after him.

saywhat · 17/06/2008 14:45

LOL lulu now that is vain! hmm didnt think of lengthening it..scottie. Makes me think of scottie dogs.

Ahaaa - after some perusing of the baby name book I have found a single syllable Scottish boy's name that is unlikely to be shortened or lengthened:

Keith!

Bet there wouldn't be any others in his class at school.

LuLuBai · 17/06/2008 14:51

I've never even snogged a Keith but I might use it if I ever get another cat.

saywhat · 17/06/2008 15:03

lol i have a gay mate called keith, he is fab, and would be very proud to have my son called after him, however DH doesnt like him, so i cant see him going for that one!
