Are these a bit 90s?

Kinda love the names I grew up hearing, thoughts?

Kelly
Rosie
Chloe
Maddison
Kimberley

Really liked old fashioned names but now I know we’re pregnant I find myself drawn too E sounds the way I was with DC1. Turned out to be a boy and at the time I was sure he was going to be called Elsie but that’s gotten a lot more popular since we were first pregnant.

Boy names I really struggle with ..
We have an Oliver already, I like:

Axel
Alex
Teddy
Chester
Arthur
Archie
Alfie

Names are so hard!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Allswellthatendswelll · 27/02/2026 22:33

They are quite 90s but not necessarily a problem. Kelly and Kimberly especially. I feel like most nicknames are E sound names though.

Molly/Polly/Holly
Lucy
Betsy (Elizabeth)
Ellie (Eleanor)
Nancy
Kathy (Katherine)
Darcey

Feel like Archie and Alfie are SO common atm.

Koulibiak · 27/02/2026 22:42

Nobody would bat an eyelid at any of these names in my part of London. Go for whichever you like 👍

Silverbirchleaf · 27/02/2026 22:47

Kelly - the only Kelly’s I know are in their 40s
Rosie - Rose babes are very popular where I live
Chloe - late 90s/early 2000 babe
Maddison - love this, don’t associate with any era
Kimberley - I’d say more of 70s name , love it, haven’t heard it used for years

Axel - not keen
Alex - short fir Alexander, classic name
Teddy - every other baby and odour dog was named this five years ago
Chester - not keen on ‘surname babes’
Arthur - classic
Archie - quite popular
Alfie - not sure

Your boys names seem to have a different feel to your girls names to me.

suggestions -

Luke
Richard
Adam
Robert
Callum
Rory

Molly
Kirstin
Meredith
Amber
Jasmine
Daisy
Gemma

iwasgonnasay · 27/02/2026 23:17

Thanks guys, and great alternative suggestions
BUT we have most of those on one side of the family or the other so it’s a struggle 😭

Definitely I have different feelings on girl and boy names
Girl I always like pretty cutsie “girlie” names because I always felt mine was a bit blah and dull

Boy names I like strong, classic clean modern yet traditional names

I do quite like Arthur, as rightly said Alfie and Archie are v popular - though I have an Oliver already and that’s fairly common here

Lucas I like over Luke
Alexander
Joseph? Although we have a dog in the family who is Joseph

Girl I think Chloe Rose or Kelly Rose are top
Maddison Or Chloe Maddison maybe?
M single syllable surname also which is why I want something a bit more floaty before it

Love Courtney, and Chelsy.
Others you might like ..
Alison
Kathleen
Emily
Rebecca

Of your girl names I dislike Maddison.
Most of your boy names are not to my liking, though are not offensive.

Joseph, Luke, Arthur and Alex are handsome in a similar way to Oliver. The others you list are very trendy and not as timeless.

Some you might like..
Thomas
Scott
Tristan
David
Wallace
Edward
Ewan
Charles

I think Chloe or Arthur would be lovely. Both are great names and would go well with Oliver

They are really the only names I like from your lists - the rest I really dislike.

LivingTheDreamish · 28/02/2026 03:37

Chloe, Arthur or Alexander would be my picks. Chloe is slightly 90s but still a good name (also like Phoebe).

Seasonofthesticks · 28/02/2026 04:10

iwasgonnasay · 27/02/2026 23:20

Courtney?

Courtney, Kimberley, Chloe…are you a fan of the kardashians?

I do like Courtney though!

CarlaLemarchant · 28/02/2026 04:23

Your girls names are 90s yes, not necessarily a bad thing, but hard to know how they’d be viewed now by their peers. Maybe the equivalent of a late 90s/00s teen being named Tracey/Debbie/Pam?
Chloe is not that 90s tho, there are currently lots of teen Chloe’s about.

Some of your boys names are really overused. There are sooo many Alfie’s/Arthurs/Archies. Try and avoid one of those unless you really love it.

Myswweetchild · 28/02/2026 05:50

Amber and Scarlet are 90s names that I like. I quite like Chloe.
Love Oliver.
I don't like Alfie, Archibald, Albert, etc but love Alexander.
Oliver and Daniel ❤

ArcticSkua · 28/02/2026 06:07

Girls - I think Kelly and Kimberley are a bit dated but the others are absolutely fine. Chloe is my favourite.

Boys - l really like Alex on your list. Teddy and Arthur are ok.

foggyday90 · 28/02/2026 07:24

They are quite 90s but I still hear Chloe, Maddison especially Rosie a fair bit. Elsie is less popular than Oliver so if you still like it I don’t think that’s a reason not to use it.

From your list, Chloe and Rosie feel like a nice fit with Oliver. I really dislike Maddison.

These feel a little 90s/00s but still more current in style, with lots of E sounds:

Emily/Emma
Isabel/le (Izzie)
Hannah
Lucy
Molly/Holly
Georgia/Georgie
Grace/Gracie
Sophie
Bethany
Anna/Annabel/Annalise (Annie)
Megan (Maggie)
Amy
Harriet (Hattie)
Sarah (Sadie)
Madeleine/Madeline (Maddie)
Bethany
Phoebe
Zoe

Mumofgirls2017 · 28/02/2026 08:01

Maddison, Kelly and Kimberley definitely are a bit 90s imo. Rosie and Chloe are current enough still I think. For boys I like Arthur, Teddy and alex

simpledeer · 28/02/2026 08:06

Rosie is nice. The rest are pretty dated I think.

MrsBenevolent · 28/02/2026 08:10

Just a comment re Kimberley - there was a sanitary towel manufacturer called Kimberley Clark in the 90s and I remember the vending machine at school.

That said it also came with belts to hold them in place, so doubt this is too relevant to 2026!

plantseeds · 28/02/2026 08:12

Chloe was very popular in the late 90s and early 2000s; it was sort of the Olivia of its day. It’s a nice enough name though. You’ve just made me think I haven’t come across a Chloe for ages - there used to be a few in every class I taught!

I like Rosie and Alex best from your list.

Pettenell · 28/02/2026 08:14

Rosie is lovely and doesn't seem dated to me. And Rosie sounds good with brother Oliver. Second choice is Chloe.
The others feel too dated to me.

I like all your boy names except Chester. Do you like Casper?
My favourites from your boy list are Archie and Arthur.

iwasgonnasay · 28/02/2026 12:04

Thank you! Very constructive feedback
I think my top are going to be Chloe and Rosie for a girl - will probably end up Chloe Rose
I love Phoebe but it’s already in the family and we have few that have used the same name and I’m not a fan
I don’t like the Kardashians at all to be honest but the names are definitely from my era!

Boy I think at the moment Arthur or Alex
Archie and Alfie I loved but they are a bit more popular - not enough for me to rule out completely

DH not really in on this yet as last time he picked the boy name and I picked the girl name and it was a boy!

Cocktailsandcheese · 28/02/2026 12:41

Chloe and Rosie are lovely for a girl!!
I like all your boy names except for Axel, it has a different vibe to the others.

RavelTrio · 28/02/2026 12:43

I think Chloe is terribly 90s, if that bothers you.

RosesAndHellebores · 28/02/2026 12:51

My DC are 90s children. Their classmates, obviously not all but the most popular.

Girls
Imogen
Rosie
Olivia
Phoebe
Alice
(And every iteration of illy/olly: Milly, Molly, Tilly, Ellie, Poppy, Daisy)

Boys:
Sam(uel)
Ben(jamin)
Will(iam)
Tom(Thomas)
Matthew
James
Oliver
Sebastian (Sebby or Baz)

CoffeeBeansGalore · 28/02/2026 13:04

Chloe Rose is lovely.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 28/02/2026 13:07

Chloë Rose works well.

Im throwing in Elizabeth, abbreviated to Libby (or indeed Beth, Bessie, Betsy, Liz, Liza, Lizzy, etc).
