Leo (there’s 4 in my dd’s class), Theo, Arlo, Sonny, Jacob, Joshua

Nighttimeistherightime · 11/02/2026 06:54

4 Lucas’ in one of my classes, Finn, Alfie, Kayden, Jayden, Jackson, Harry/Harrison, Kai (so many names beginning with K!) Isaac. There are so few really great boys names around! Having said that, there is so much repetition with girls names too but I guess there always was- hundreds of Debbie’s when I was at school! It seems now Effie, Winnie and Etta have even usurped the never ending Isla!

I work in schools and I hear a great mix of traditional and modern names, along with the occasional Bear/Ocean/Tesla.

DinoCookie · 11/02/2026 10:27

Here in East Anglia the most common name at the minute is definitely: Theo (my 4 year old tells me there's 3 just in his nursery room alone!)
Then I also hear a lot of..
Albie
Arlo
Edward

My son's name has popped up on a few people's lists which doesn't really surprise me as it is on the rise! But weirdly it isn't that common where we are - we've only known of 1 other in our little area! It is funny how it differs from area to area.

PutTheScrewInTheTuna · 11/02/2026 10:30

South west, between 0-11 year old boys we know tons of:
Theo,
Hugo,
Freddie,
Teddy,
Jude

Yorkshire. I can think of 4 I know under 5 (although I don’t have kids so it’s children of people I know!)

Allsigns · 11/02/2026 10:39

@WelcometomyUnderworld I'm also in Yorkshire! In the East Ridings. Isn't that funny how it can be so localised.

KarriTreeSullivan · 11/02/2026 10:55

Noah, Leo, Theo. I'm in west Wales, so the trends tend to get diluted with Welsh names or Welsh versions of names.

What many would consider as 'surnames' as first names are very popular here too, particular ones ending in 'son'.

My children are tweenies and a teenager, and I'd say the youngest child I know well is 6. I don't really know what the babies are being called right now :)
