Thoughts on Elma?

Saw an old thread on here absolutely slamming Elma - but wondered what people make of it now? I like the sound of it, simple to spell, sounds classic to me. A bit different to Emma / Ella. Has family meaning for us. Curious what others think!

@billiongulls, Depends where you live probably but it would definitely be 'Elmurand Elmuh' by some people.

I'm Irish, so we would say Elmah and Elmerrrr. Very different sounds

I think of Elmer the elephant or Elmer glue. It's a nice name, though more masculine in my mind

I know an Elma in her late 20s. I like it, as a pp said it’s a pet name formed from Elizabeth and Mary.

Elmer the Elephant

I prefer Emer

I've only met one Elma, ever. It was the name of the mum of a girl I went to school with. I always thought it was a very odd name for a person, as Elmer is an elephant.

To answer someone's question, yes the Elmer books are still very popular for the under 5s. There's still a new one written most years, lots of merchandise sold etc. The original book is studied at most primary schools in Nursery or Reception, due to the lovely messages about acceptance and celebrating difference, so nearly all children will be familiar with Elmer by the age of 5, if not sooner.

Elma is a big no for me. Emma is lovely though.

I think it’s lovely but I think if I was considering it I’d probably opt for Alma instead
