Help with a boy name!!

zcy9079 · 14/01/2026 13:20

Our baby boy was born in December, and we’re still struggling to decide a name!

We live in the UK, but we’re not local, so this is where we could really use some help. We’re not always sure which names might have certain associations we wouldn’t be aware of!!

Here’s current shortlist. How do you rank them and any associations with them?

Lawrence
Rhys
Arthur
Levi
Felix

Thanks!

Lawrence is the nicest.
Rhys is nice too.
Arthur is overused.
Hate Felix (the cat!) as it’s cat food in the uk 🐈

All are handsome names.
Which one sounds great with your surname?

Username2151 · 14/01/2026 16:12

The only one on your list that I personally don't like, is Felix.
I've knew one man once named Felix, from NL, and unfortunately, I associate the name with him.
All the others on your list are really nice imo, although tbh, Larry as a NN of Lawrence - not keen on.

Samdelila · 14/01/2026 16:24

I like Lawrence the best (by far). I also like Felix (although it seems to be a bit marmite) and Arthur, but you should be aware that it has a posh boy vibe. I’m not keen on Rhys, but it’s okay. Sounds a bit Welsh. Levi is ghastly, sounds like a brand of jeans.

MiddleAgedDread · 15/01/2026 09:59

I think Rhys is a solid name - works at all ages, not particularly trendy or linked to a particular era.
Levi is awful.
Lawrence and Arthur are ok but possibly a bit "of the moment". Felix doesn't offend me regarding cat food in the way it does many people!

BatsInHibernation · 15/01/2026 19:43

Laurence with this spelling and then you can use Laurie, not Larry as a NN

Keroppi · 15/01/2026 19:53

Laurence is nicer or Laurent I like too
Laurie nn
Lawrence is a bit surname-y
Arthur is a classic
Rhys is a bit boring imo same with Levi
Felix no it's too associated with cats for me. Prefer other x sounds like Alexander

LlynTegid · 15/01/2026 19:54

Rhys or Lawrence would be the only two I would consider. Lawrence has the disadvantage of being abbreviated often.

doodlebee · 15/01/2026 22:00

Vote for Lawrence here! Although I prefer the Laurence spelling :)

Calliopespa · 15/01/2026 22:11

No objections to Arthur from me!

How about Laurie to take the stiffness and connection with the rabid Fox away?

LancashireButterPie · 16/01/2026 00:11

Not Lawrence, I've met two creepy men called Lawrence, both of whon who insisted on it being shortened to Lol/Lolly/Uncle Lollipop.

The Lawrences and Laurences I know all go by Larry.

The spelling makes no difference.

You whatnow???

mathanxiety · 16/01/2026 04:39

I would choose Arthur or Felix. Both are well recognized internationally.

Lawrence will be Larry
Rhys is Welsh and strikes me as a bit odd for the baby of people who are not Welsh.
Levi is a name from the Old Testament, with religious significance as the name of the tribe of Levi, traditionally the priests of the Israelite people. Not all Levites were priests but all priests were Levites. It's now pretty popular among the kind of peoole whose other sons have names like Amos, Bodhi, Trip, Sage, and Phineas, and whose daughters are named Hunter, Symphony, Jovi, and Xan.

Eenameenadeeka · 16/01/2026 05:32

I really like Arthur, or Rhys

Lisavanderpumpsdog · 16/01/2026 06:39

Rhyce will forever have his name spelled incorrectly (Reece). And so will Lawrence I’d imagine so if you have a difficult surname maybe consider that.

I don’t like Levi. It’s a bit…just not good vibes.

I know a little Felix. He is precious.

To be honest, my child goes to nursery with 30 other kids and the range of names in incredible so I actually don’t think you can go wrong really these days.

I just threw up in my mouth.

LilyLemonade · 16/01/2026 07:10

They are all nice but for me Lawrence is a bit old-fashioned.

If you had a child called Rhys I would assume you were Welsh.

Arthur and Felix are lovely, strong, current names and I think work well in any context.

Levi is more unusual but I like it a lot. I assume you would pronounce it like the jeans / Bible (Lee-vye?) and not Levvee?
