Hailey or Hayley?

Me and DH like this name but both prefer different spellings

To me Hailey looks prettier but is more common as a US spelling

DH prefers the more commonly used in UK spelling of Hayley

Prove it.

Look at the census. I can't do it for you.

greglet · 07/01/2026 16:13

Hailey is nicer, I think.

Can't be arsed. Your argument is like saying Jenson wasn't inspired by Jenson Button.

bohemianwrapsody · 07/01/2026 16:25

There are 59 Hayleys and 67 Haileys in the 1921 England census. But they're mostly male.

😂Sorry, I really thought you were being serious. If anyone else made the same mistake at least the joke information has been corrected.

Kumquatzest · 07/01/2026 17:06

This name seems very 90s/2000s to me.
I'd go for Hailey but both spellings are fine.

Tina46 · 07/01/2026 17:07

Agree it feels very 80s. Same vibe as Gemma / Sarah / Zoe / Leah. I am more familiar with the spelling Hayley in the UK.

Laveritas · 07/01/2026 17:22

Hayley looks prettier to me, I think because it looks nicely balanced with the two ys

Oldraver · 07/01/2026 17:25

As we have a village named Hailey and a Hailey Road wouldn't think of it for a name

Treylime · 07/01/2026 17:31

WonderingWanda · 07/01/2026 16:10

I feel old. To me Hayley is up there with old fashioned names from the 70's 80's, like Deirdre or Janet, they just seem dated to me. I suspect all of the people loving the name on this thread weren't alive then.

I agree that Hayley is a 70s/80s name but Deirdre and Janet are not 70/80s names.

MovedlikeHarlowinMonteCarlo · 07/01/2026 17:37

Hayley is nicer than Hailey imo

This has to be a joke but not a very good one…

Snowyowl99 · 07/01/2026 17:42

Hayley is more professional, more classy. Hailey chavvy

Topseyt123 · 07/01/2026 17:51

I prefer Hayley.

worstnotholiday · 07/01/2026 17:52

I wonder if region makes a difference - because to me Hailey= stripper and Hayley=doctor

Hayley is more classy. Tasteful (though I agree a bit dated)

youalright · 07/01/2026 17:59

I think Hailey looks nicer

RuthW · 07/01/2026 18:01

Hayley.

Hailey is just messing with a spelling.

HugoYorway · 07/01/2026 18:01

@saltandvinegarchipsticks, It's not a joke. There were probably boys/men called Jenson but the name wasn't popular as a first name.

Hailey - Doctor
Hayley - Stripper

I agree with this

justaddittothelist · 07/01/2026 20:31

I prefer Hailey.

And btw to the other poster, Eilidh is definitely not pronounced Ally!!

ramonaquimby · 07/01/2026 20:34

peachskies · 07/01/2026 20:39

I like Hayley or Haley

“Probably” of course there were, do you think Mr and Mrs Button invented it?
I am old enough to be his mum and I went to school with two Jensons.
but you seem to be suggesting that these people (Jenson Button, Hayley Mills, Hailey Bieber) are the origin of the names, which is plainly daft.

HugoYorway · 07/01/2026 21:03

@saltandvinegarchipsticks , I'm not suggesting they're the origin of the names. I'm suggesting that they are probably why the names became so popular.

Your post suggests a lack of comprehension and your accusation is daft.

SwedishEdith · 07/01/2026 21:11

Sounds very dated to me - women in their 30s and 40s. It's Kayleigh and Leanne vintage. Hayley would be the spelling most people recognise but I wouldn't want to be called that.
