Considering this however it is 4 syllables so not sure if this means it will be shortened.

Lovely. Elegant, interesting whilst being easy to pronounce.

Calliopespa · 04/01/2026 16:11

Feelin' ill are ya?

I'm not generally a fan of these shorter vowelly names with prominent L as consonant (Elara, Alana, Ilaria, Ella etc): they sound kind of slimy to me.

But they are popular.

Emanwenym · 04/01/2026 16:16

Ilaria is Italian and is 3 syllables. ill-ARE-ya. (I've posted this elsewhere)
Ilaria (given name) - Wikipedia

I quite like it but it's long, vowelly and will blend in with all the other long vowelly names, Arias and L-R names.

TragicMuse · 04/01/2026 16:19

The Italian version of Hilary…

Frogbear · 04/01/2026 16:20

Reminds me of Hilary Baldwin pretending to be Spanish (she claims her name is Hilaria) so I do associate it with that mad story.

The name itself is pretty though.

CarlaH · 04/01/2026 16:21

Sounds like a holiday destination to me.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 04/01/2026 16:33

I like it, I know multiple Italian women called it and none are called a shortened version interestingly

BatchCookBabe · 04/01/2026 16:34

All I am hearing is Malaria.

100% NO.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 04/01/2026 16:36

I dislike the way it looks written down in most texts because the I and l look almost identical, probably sounds ridiculous but that would put me off especially as most things have moved from being handwritten to digital now.

But that just makes it sound like you're asking someone if they're not well.

'ill are ya?'

Probably sounds fine if you're Italian/in Italy, but ludicrous if you're born and raised in the UK...

SweetBaklava · 04/01/2026 16:38

I think it’s a beautiful name, I only know one (from Malta) and she pronounces it ‘ill-ah-ree-ah’

DemBonesDemBones · 04/01/2026 17:28

My Italian friend pronounces her name Ill-ah-ree-ah. I love it.

ShawnaMacallister · 04/01/2026 17:30

I prefer the game of thrones spelling of Ellaria which might be a bit naff but looks better IMO and would be pronounced with 4 syllables as you wanted

Snorlaxo · 04/01/2026 17:32

Too close to Melania (Trump) for my liking.

Moreteaandchocolate · 04/01/2026 17:49

I prefer Ellaria / Elaria as then the first syllable is El not ill.

😂

That's 'ilaria-s!

My Italian friend pronounces her name Ill-ah-ree-ah. I love it.

But is that Ill-AH-ree-ah (like Olivia) or Ill-ah-REE-ah (rhymes with Maria)?

Eenameenadeeka · 06/01/2026 07:52

I like it, it sounds pretty.

FunnyOrca · 06/01/2026 22:17

I only know one and the name really doesn’t suit her at all. It’s a nice name on the right person.

Same!
