This name seems to be suddenly everywhere in my little life.
How is it pronounced?
Is it just a different version of Bodie ?
Is it Bod - hi ?
Or something I've not considered?

If it’s coming up lots in your life, how do these people pronounce it then??

I would say Bodhi as in bodhisattva which I’m sure I pronounce with an English accent, not Sanskrit or whatever it is. Bo-dee.

Google says it like Body. Best copy the parents!

Chafing · 29/12/2025 14:02

Bow like in your hair
Dee like the letter

Bow-dee
That's how the one I know says it anyway.

CheeseWisely · 29/12/2025 14:02

Bow-Dee. At least that’s how the one I know is pronounced. Bow as in ribbon, not as in the male equivalent to curtesy.

elQuintoConyo · 29/12/2025 14:03

Rhymes with roady.

cornbunting · 29/12/2025 14:04

In my head it's the same as "body". But then I've only ever seen it written, not heard it spoken, so may very well be wrong!

ShesTheAlbatross · 29/12/2025 14:06

I’d pronounce it to rhyme with Jodie.

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 29/12/2025 14:06

No it's from the Bodhi tree under which the Buddha gained enlightenment, and is used as a name in the context of Buddhism, like Bodhidharma who took Buddhism to China and a Bodhisattva meaning an enlightened being.
Personally, as a Buddhist, I would roll my eyes at anyone using it in ignorance as, say, a Christian might roll their eyes at anyone using the name Jesus with absolutely no knowledge of its origins.

Edited

It's been on a few Christmas cards/letters/texts etc... and a very long discussion with my mother who insists it is Bod-hi and I argued for Bow-dee

I’ve assumed it’s Bow-Dee to rhyme with Brody.

Not very Buddhist of you to roll your eyes at someone else's decisions which don't hurt you. Bit judgy.

Lol. I'm a Buddhist. I'm not enlightened. And I wouldn't say anything.
Yes I am imperfect and judgy as fuck.

canuckup · 29/12/2025 14:22

ReturnToRiding · 29/12/2025 14:22

RuthW · 29/12/2025 15:35

It’s Bow-Dee

BoleynMemories13 · 29/12/2025 16:03

It Bow-dee.

Definitely a name of the moment. The type of name where everyone who picks it proudly brags "we wanted something unusual, wouldn't want to saddle him with something in the top 10", then quietly weeps "oh f*ck" when they realise every other baby boy they meet right now is also called Bodhi and their 'unusual' choice was one of the fastest rising names in 2025 😂

It’s also from the Movie classic Point Break where the main villain character is called Bodhi. (Bowdee) this is where most parents are getting the name from.

soccermum10 · 29/12/2025 16:09

Bow dee

TheCurious0range · 29/12/2025 16:11

The same as I'd pronounce Jodie

NuffSaidSam · 29/12/2025 16:12

Chafing · 29/12/2025 14:02

Bow like in your hair
Dee like the letter

Bow-dee

Same for me.

Egglio · 29/12/2025 16:13

I was somewhere noisy anx busy and was introduced to a child, I swear they said he was called Bogey. I have a very good poker face. It was only later when I mentioned to DD what an unusual name they had chosen, Bogey, that she pissed herself laughing and says 'No mum, Bodhi'.

So I'm going with the Bow-dee pronunciation.

LancashireButterPie · 02/01/2026 09:47

I hate this name. I have always hated it even though I adored Lewis Collins in the professionals.
It really does sound like Bogey.

RobertaFirmino · 07/01/2026 21:59

I'm not certain Bohdi will go down well in the playground. Sounds rather like bogey. Sorry.
