I had a baby girl a few weeks ago and we have called her poppy as we love all of the nicknames pops popsy etc. and it goes well with our other children names. However I have always ADORED olive. Should I change it?! I think I could convince my husband…

Why would you change it if you love it?

meltingalways · 28/12/2025 21:51

Because I love Olive also and I’m very torn!!

Personally, I prefer Poppy. But she's not my baby.
I think you need to air your feelings to your husband and have a proper discussion before the name is finalised.

meltingalways · 28/12/2025 21:51

I’ve been known to have a bit of name regret in the past so second guessing myself…

we have spoken about it and he is open to the discussion it’s just a matter of deciding really

Have you registered her as poppy? I think keep poppy if you all have started to call her that name

meltingalways · 28/12/2025 21:54

No haven’t registered her yet

Poppy is a lovely name but my DD is Olive and I love it

mumofb2 · 28/12/2025 21:56

Would you not call her poppy olive ?

TheaBrandt1 · 28/12/2025 21:57

Prefer Olive but then I don’t like any cutesy girlie names on adult women. Poppy / Daisy / Honey etc are fine for toddlers but make me cringe on adults especially if they have senior responsible jobs.

AmyDuPlantier · 28/12/2025 21:58

Olive is genuinely awful, lumpen and dull and heavy sounding.

meltingalways · 28/12/2025 22:01

Yes wondering if I should have Poppy olive . We have already decided on a middle name
but she could have 2..

OP posts:
mumofb2 · 28/12/2025 22:06

Maybe reconsider the other middle name you have. Yes she could have 2 if the other middle name has a meaning behind it.. if it’s just a name you like.. maybe decide on just the one

meltingalways · 28/12/2025 22:07

It definitely has meaning for a family member that passed away. But it might settle my doubts to slot Olive in there too!!!

Unless you refer her to your little olive! I have a middle name that I never ever use. You don’t want her not using hers because she can’t be bothered writing 4 names down (including her surname) haha

Marcipix · 28/12/2025 22:13

Olive is terribly dull and stolid.
Poppy is sweet but there are a lot of them.
Poppy Olive is okay depending on your surname.

ilovepixie · 28/12/2025 22:14

Olive is a horrible ugly name. Reminds me of olive in on the buses.

Edinburghdaze · 28/12/2025 22:15

Poppy is lovely 😻

LizzieSiddal · 28/12/2025 22:18

I know a couple of little Olives, they are 3 and 5, it’s a lovely name and is very close to Olivia.

agirlandherdog1234 · 28/12/2025 22:53

I'm a fan of Olive here!!
Plus I think Poppy is too baby-ish for when she becomes an adult. Go for Olive if you love it!!

SuziQuinto · 28/12/2025 23:22

Olive is lovely, I agree with pp, Poppy is one of those ditzy names that have been fashionable recently.
It sounds as if you're torn though - so it's tricky.

DramaAlpaca · 28/12/2025 23:26

Olive is much nicer name to my ears.

Moreteaandchocolate · 28/12/2025 23:42

I much prefer Poppy! :)

OliviaFlaversham · 28/12/2025 23:50

I know some older Poppys and it has aged well and doesn’t feel babyish. Olive is ok but does make me think of, well, an Olive. More than Poppy makes me think of poppies.

Lemonlimonade · 29/12/2025 07:56

Olive 🫒 is oily and an ugly sounding name.
