What do you think of the name Clare for a baby girl born in 2026? I prefer this spelling to Claire, not keen on Clara. Is it too 70s??

I like it

HoorayHattie · 27/12/2025 22:06

I think it's beautiful and the meaning is 'light' which is lovely

However, you may have to keep correcting the spelling as most people will be more familiar with Claire

goudacheese · 27/12/2025 22:07

Really nice. All the Clares or Claires I know are lovely.

DramaAlpaca · 27/12/2025 22:07

I love it, especially that spelling because it makes me of the beautiful County Clare in Ireland. It's a sweet, pretty name.

MumChp · 27/12/2025 22:07

I would go with Claire.
I like it. It was on our list for a girl.

Teado · 27/12/2025 22:08

It’s due a revival imo. Great name.

whatapita · 27/12/2025 22:14

Thanks all, I haven’t ever had this unanimous of an agreement on a name!

It’s a beautiful name and very unusual today. Most Claire’s I know are in their thirties, beautiful and kind women! Good luck to your little Claire x

24Dogcuddler · 27/12/2025 22:27

Beautiful name and not heard of often now. Where I live it would be pronounced as Clurr though not Clare/ Claire by most people.

Doveylc · 27/12/2025 22:28

I know a Clair and she is lovely!

BeFairOliveBear · 27/12/2025 22:53

I like it, much prefer the Clare spelling.

Lifeislove · 27/12/2025 23:18

I'm 62 and a Clare. 99% of the time when asked my name to be written down I automatically reply 'Clare without an I'.
I was born in Wales and I believe the spelling was related to that but not sure.

OSTMusTisNT · 27/12/2025 23:21

I know 3 Clare's with that very spelling (2x40's and 1x30's) Lovely classic name that doesn't age IMO.

ChangedWhoIWas · 27/12/2025 23:58

Love it (and that spelling). It’s a name used over the generations in my family, including it being my middle name.

winnieanddaisy · 28/12/2025 01:02

My DD is Claire. She is 52 and Gilbert o’Sullivan may have had something to do with her name 🤣. She at one point was working with 4 other Clares/Claires .

user1492757084 · 28/12/2025 01:46

Love Clare.

NannyOf8Girls · 28/12/2025 01:52

Love it

ForFunGoose · 28/12/2025 01:52

Clare is a great name, keep this spelling.

CurlewKate · 28/12/2025 05:47

I love Clare!

CurlewKate · 28/12/2025 05:50

Only 9 a year for the past few years. Practically the Mumsnet holy grail of “unique”!

CanYouHereMeRoar · 28/12/2025 06:17

I am in my late 20s and went to school with about three clares/claires so it's not totally dated to the 70s.

ByPoisedRaven · 28/12/2025 06:22

Considering the popularity of Outlander, I think Claire is likely more common than you think.

Flintgranet · 28/12/2025 07:19

Beautiful name.

No matter how you spell it, you and then eventually your dd will need to clarify the spelling for people writing it down. But that's true of a great many names, and not a barrier.

flutterby1 · 28/12/2025 07:39

Claire with an i Is the French spelling … I prefer it. More sophisticated

NextBridgeToCross · 28/12/2025 07:42

Clare spelt that way is my middle name and yes I was born in the 70s.

j love it and get lots of positive comments.

i also love having this Irish spelling.
