What vibe/era do you get from Aron

I recently thought of the name Aron as an option for our son, since my FIL is named Ronny, but I cannot decide whether I actually like it or not.

I have never known an Aron of any age and still don't, so I'm struggling to figure out whether it feels dated or modern or somewhere in between.

Wondering what vibe / era other people are getting from the name Aron?

Thanks

We have an Aron in the family.
I find people automatically spell it Aaron. Otherwise I like it- but I have positive associations!

Thanks for all the feedback!

Seems like the pronunciation can also vary quite a lot depending on were you are at. We'll probably rather go for something simpler then. Don't want to sign him up for a life time of correcting either spelling or pronunciation.

How about Ronnie for the baby, @JJB92 ?

User7854653 · 19/12/2025 14:01

It's the name of a Pokemon.

If he's a boy, take into account he might be very popular at school or greatly teased for being named after a fairly unusual Pokemon.

JJB92 · 19/12/2025 14:08

@Emanwenym that can definitely work. It's just that neither of us is crazy about it, that's why I've been trying to come up with alternatives, but I haven't found anything we like more

I think Ronnie is nice, @JJB92 . I'd use that spelling as it's more conventional and to give him his own identity. They can joke about fork handles.

Aaron used to be pronounced Air-ron and is now almost always pronounced Arran, except by a very few people, a bit like how Ralph was Rafe and now is usually Ralph to rhyme with Alf. (In the UK anyway.) (Or how Clara was Claira and nowadays rhymes with Lara.)

I think 99% of people these days would go for Aaron pronounced the way you like, so if you like it I wouldn't overthink it.

But if he's going to be called Ronny anyway go for Ronny?

sanityisamyth · 19/12/2025 18:35

Don’t like biblical names but I wouldn’t spell it Aron.

I like the traditional spelling Aaron. I know an Arron.. he's a first class cocky, upstart twat. But don't let that put you off..

Yorkshire?

Nincompoo · 19/12/2025 18:44

I don’t like the spelling but as a name it’s fine, it doesn’t conjure up connotations, positive or negative.

I love the Rafe pronunciation of Ralph. I wish I’d had the guts to use it.

CurlewKate · 19/12/2025 18:48

Sorry-I get somebody who can’t spell Aaron.

horseplay12 · 19/12/2025 18:48

I know a couple of Aaron’s - not heard of Aron though.

Chinsupmeloves · 19/12/2025 18:53

Aaron is how I've known the name and i like it. Any other spelling doesn't give the same vibe so I would keep the traditional name. Xx

Onefortheroad25 · 19/12/2025 18:56

The first vibe I get is that someone can’t spell. It should be Aaron. Nice name. 90’s floppy haired boy band vibes.

OneOfEachPlease · 19/12/2025 19:02

Depending on where you are from Aran/Aron and Aaron have completely different pronunciations. The latter is air-on/an; the former a-ran.

CecilwashingtonIdontliketolose · 19/12/2025 19:32

A do do Ron
Song by the Chiffons iirc

YellowStockings · 19/12/2025 19:36

Byron? Ronan? Both could be shortened to Ronnie / Ron for a nickname.

WhineAndWine1 · 19/12/2025 19:37

I only know a woman called Aron and she’s amazing. All the males I know with that name is spelt Aaron

Silverbirchleaf · 19/12/2025 19:38

The vibe I get is someone trying to be too ‘unique’ with a spelling. Didn’t realise it was a recognised name.

SellYourBooks · 19/12/2025 19:57

Aaron is nicer but a great nod to Ronny!

SnowDaysAndBadLays · 19/12/2025 19:59

The name is fine, the spelling is silly.

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 19/12/2025 20:09

Someone who can’t spell.

Focusispower · 19/12/2025 20:19

Definitely Aaron. Makes me think of my first real crush - a boy from school who sung in a band. This would have been around 1994. I’d had it on my list for DS but DH wasn’t keen.

MrsKateColumbo · 19/12/2025 20:42

Im an 80s baby and know a few Aarons of different pronunciations. I think it's a lovely name and due a revival.
