Curious what reoccurring names people are hearing where they live? I personally hadn’t heard of many Ottilies until recently and now seems to be quite popular likewise Margot, Maeve and Esme. I live just outside London.

We’re in London and names of young children include Arlo, Stanley, Quentin, Margot, Edith, Mabel - lots of ‘granny names’!

ThisRareOtter · 10/12/2025 21:31

In South London and I've heard of five baby Sadie/Zadie's in the past couple of months!

Esme Evelyn are my friends daughters twin girls name's

Purdey700 · 15/12/2025 05:01

What do you think are the names Esme and Evelyn old fashioned?

Forgottenmyphone · 15/12/2025 05:22

Loads of Amelies and Arthurs popping up here in East Anglia.

mummysmagicmedicine · 15/12/2025 08:22

Surrey:
Hugo, Arthur, George, Ralph, Albie, Theo

Ottilie, Matilda, Freya, Felicity, Violet

Alexandrine · 16/12/2025 00:44

More Lenny’s than the stats would suggest. But as I’ve said before, really any 2 syllable name ending in “oh” (especially Theo, Leo, Arlo and Willow) and any 2 syllable name ending in “ee” and “ah” (too many to mention but Ava, Marnie, Lily, Poppy, Noah, Charlie, Harry and Alfie seem especially popular) - this type of name accounts for about three quarters of the kids in DS primary/preschool.

Of the ones you mention OP, I know two Esme’s and Maeve’s but only one Margot and Ottilie. I think some name trends tend to hit a little later where I am in North Wales.

East Mids here

Isla
Freya
Matilda
Harper

Arthur - so many Arthur's
Archie
Miles / Myles unexpectedly
Oscar

Hedjwitch · 16/12/2025 13:47

I don't know many folks with babies tbh but among the dds friends in various parts of the UK we have:
Arthur
Dominic
Archie
Isla
Theo

Mariammaom · 16/12/2025 13:48

I can’t believe how popular Theo still seems to be. We know sooo many Theos aged 15 and under that to me it feels so dull and overused.

SurreyMumOfOne · 16/12/2025 13:56

In our area:

Sienna
Isla
Lily
Freya
Emily
Olivia
Ava

Oliver
Leo
Harry

schoolsoutforever · 24/12/2025 23:34

It's strange - all these names are (more or less) the same name very popular when my children were born 15-18 years ago. Ottilie seems a newbie but all the Avas, Freyas, Theos etc have been around for many years.

Emanwenym · 25/12/2025 12:48

If you go to Baby names for girls in England and Wales - Office for National Statistics, you can download the data set for 2024. One of the tabs is:

Table 7: Most popular name for baby girls by area of usual residence of mother, England and Wales, 2024

The most popular name in your region might not be in the top 30 names. E.g. In Hackney it's Sarah (#130), in Sefton it's Jessica (#95), in Blackburn with Darwen
it's Aaminah (#565).

RaraRachael · 25/12/2025 13:21

I'm in the north east and along with the ottilies, monty's, archies, oliver/olivia and mabels we also have a good smattering of catherines, lucy's, sophie's, rachel's, emily's, christopher's, joshua's, david's etc. Feel like I'm half in my own childhood and the class mimics mine from the 90's!

FunnyOrca · 08/01/2026 05:38
